I'd been wanting a small bench extension that I can do some sit-down work at, yet not permanently extending into car parking space. My benches are two 6'x18" benches attached to my garage wall with a 2' gap for a built-in router. They're also for woodworking with the 10" deep apron. The bench extension will sit right where it is in the final pic, bolted to the bench, when in use. When not in use it will sit in a corner of the garage.
First pic is the naked carcass, 18-1/2"x16". Second pic is a close-up of the laminated construction: 3/4" ply, 1/2" mdf, 5/16" ply, 1/2" mdf, 3/4" ply. The top 3/4" ply has a 1" lip on three sides. Third pic is the two cast iron surface plates, about 1/8" thick. Fourth pic is the plates prepped and sprayed on the bottom with FlexSeal. Fifth pic is the carcass sprayed with Flexseal. Sixth pic is the top assembled. Screws were left slightly proud then ground down flush with the plates. Seventh pic is the final assembly with the table base I had fabbed for me. Plates are waxed, feet are custom heights to allow for garage floor, total height 35-1/2" (level with the bench), and weight est. 60-70 lbs.
