I know. I have too many grinders at the moment. But this one was so cool I just couldn't pass it up. It's an old Marathon 2hp 3 phase grinder. It's mounted on a base I made. I like to use scrap truck brake drums for machine stands. To me it's a clean look.

This grinder is very heavy, at least 180 pounds (by itself). With all that weight I don't have to balance the wheels, just true them and good to go.

I don't have the tool rests installed in this picture. But they're there. This machine is complete except for the nameplate. I ID'd it by googling images ad nauseam.

OK, I'm done gloating.

Very nice.

What size wheels?

Did it come with the wheels pictured?

What did you pay for it?

Do you have three phase or are you using some sort of phase converter?

Nice looking grinder. I've also got a big 3 phase one, and love how quiet it is. Need to buy new wheels for it, but I'll spend more for a pair of 12"x2" wheels than I did the grinder, so I'm dragging my feet.

Nice grinder and really nice stand. The wheel and I beam make for a beefy look.
But why do you have Surface Grinder wheels on a Pedestal Grinder?
Using it strictly for tool grinding?
They'll wear pretty quick being a lot softer than Alu. Oxide wheels.
That, and I don't think they'll take much hard use, which a lot of times
happens with jobs you do on that type machine.

When I got the thing I was sure it was a 12" grinder. But when I opened it up, I realized it is a 10" grinder.

Right now this thing's purpose in life is to grind HSS lathe tool bits. If I ever want a harder wheel they're a lot easier to come by.

I paid something for the wheels and the paint and replaced the glass and put in new lamp sockets and power cord. Other than that, it didn't cost me anything. A guy got it at auction in a lot, didn't want it, gave it to my buddy who in turn gave it to me. The beam was part of a drop from a job, and scrap truck brake drums are free. The top plate is 304 stainless and I got those from a guy who gave me 3 of them just like this one, exactly that size. Nearly 1/2" thick.

This machine runs at 1750 rpm. When running with wheels on but no other load, it draws 1.8 amps per leg at 220 volts.

Your grinder is very nice.
I have a few grinders some get used every day others get used once a month. Only the red BALDOR 6 inch and the Black and Decker were bought new. The 12 inch disc grinder in the background was a little something I made in high school shop, 57 years ago. I put a new US motor on the disc grinder last summer.
The other grinders are from Craigslist.
