Grinder wheels must have been talked about to death here and elsewhere but am not quite sure what to do based on what I've read on the internet.
Have had my 6"x3/4" bench grinder for something like 30+ years and have hardly used it in that time. Has survived a divorce and many moves. It's def. a survivor... Last winter I finally started restoring one of my 2 vintage cars (that have also survived a divorce & many moves). Wow, I can't believe how much I use that bench grinder now. Built a stand for it too which makes it pretty handy to use.
The wheels both need replacing now. Not sure what to get. Should I install one coarse and one medium grit or...? I use it for grinding mild steel only. I want an AO wheel? Is a premium blue AO wheel better?
Is there such a thing as an adapter so I can use a 1" wheel or is that not a good idea?
I bought an old Craftsman drill bit sharpening jig so I can sharpen bits instead of buying new ones all the time. I have HSS and cobalt bits. What wheels do these need? Easy to swap a wheel for doing drill bits if and when needed.
Up until this past winter I also had a second bench grinder and sold it on CL thinking I didn't need two of them. Now I am kicking myself for doing that because I could have used it for a wire wheel and buffing wheel. Sigh.
If I go and buy another, should I get a 6" one or larger or one for 1" wide wheels?
