Hi Guys,
Need advice/ideas from you. I used my grinder & had an issue with a piece of metal that went behind my grinder & started to burn a hole in some plastic container. Have any of you built a barrier to go behind the grinder to prevent sparks/hot metal to shoot a distance? I figured maybe build a small barrier with sheet metal. Just thinking of a prevention method.

Thanks guys

Sheet metal or even roof flashing would work. A piece of heavy leaver hanging behind the grinder could work as well.

I just built a wooden enclosure around mine. I only use mine for grinding drill bits and the like though, not for heavy grinding.

I don't know how many buffing wheels I've ruined this way. The sparks ignite the fine buffing wheels on my buffer which is nearby and they smoulder away until I notice the smoke. You burn the guts out of sweaters too. I've never caught anything else on fire and am careful with flammable liquids in the area. Also have fire extinguishers very 10 feet or so. I use a tin shield at the back of my workbench when grinding there.

Sberry has his chop saw in what looks like the side of a big tank.

I just moved my grinders and had the same problem. After years of grinding on plywood I have become more safety conscious. Since I do light grinding I went with something that was lightweight. Found these oven liners at Publix and hot glued them to a piece of plywood. Now the stray sparks can hit metal instead of wood.

I have more questions than answers.

Seeing this made me think about car drip pans. They would work as well. The 2'x 4' ones and they were under $10 for the last one I bought.
