It was suggested that I shift a thread over to this site from the HAMB. It's about bench grinders. The main question is whether bench grinders, used primarily for sharpening lathe cutting tools, need a variable speed option or not. Secondary question is the quality of the Magnum brand, apparently a in-house brand sold by KMS. Tools here in BC. Probably a chinese produced (what isn't) grinder but they do make a range of quality products. KM is not like HF and sells mid to high end products (Baleigh). Comments?

Proper wheel selection is far more important than wheel speed when grinding tool steels.

Grinder speeds are set to produce roughly the average proper grinding wheel peripheral speed based on the size wheels the grinder is designed to swing.
