So I've been spending the last couple of weeks getting my garage ready for a new car... Essentially, I'm building a new bench and loft area for storage. It is still very much a work in progress, but I am getting there.

2x4 frame stained a very dark chocolate color supported by studs in the rear and 1.5" iron pipes up front. It's around 20' long. Final touch is the galvanized steel top... Turned out pretty nice and real affordable.

The loft is 26' long and supported by the same iron pips lag bolted to the rafters... Very sturdy...

More to come...

The loft is just 2x4 framing with a 1/4" plywood top. The whole thing is secured to all of the studs on the back end and lag bolted to the rafters through the 1.5" iron pipe. It's really sturdy and should hold good weight.

I'm not quite finished with it yet. I'm going to put some old beadboard on the underside of it to finish it off... Might even hang some ceiling fixtures from it for extra light.

Very simple, and it has class. The more I hang out with you(at least that is what it feels like on your boards), I am learning this way of thinking. Not everything has to be overdone. Even your bench is a hotrod.

Very nice! I love seeing guys that have made a good looking and functional space on a very tight budget. The only thing I would change is either boxing in under the loft shelf or simply stain the bare wood to match. Nice work.

Thanks for the nice words fellas...

I got the steel from my local sheet metal shop. It's 12 gauge galvanized.

Keeping the blinds clean? That will be an issue! But I do have a back splace coming soon...

As for under the loft, that is being "boxed in" with some very old bead board I have... patina.... Will also be hanging some old shop lights from it.

The big caddi sign is going on the other side of the shop. I still have 70% of my stuff in storage. Hopefully, I can start moving that stuff in this weekend.

Looks good man. I remember talking to you years ago when you built the loft in your old garage..........you are far from the wood butcher newbie you made yourself out to be!

Great looking storage. Purposeful and elegant. It's right along the lines of what I've been wanting to do in my garage, but I also want to do some shelving using the same post/boxed shelf idea.

Since you're in the same town as me, mind if I ask where you got the galvanized tops? Did they custom cut them for you as well? That's one thing I hadn't figured out yet.

Love the bead board idea underneatht the loft, I'll be searching through the local Habitat store for some soon!
