My faithful benchtop grinder developed a whine

I assume it's a bad bearing but would like confirmation

If so, how easy is it to replace?

Any instructions appreciated

I suspect you're correct.

Bearings should be easy if you have the correct tools (puller, roll-pin punch).

Here's a manual from a similar(?) model.

remove the wheels
remove the thru-bolts
remove the roll-pins(?)
remove the left end cap
remove the rotor assy
pull the bearings

Pay special attention to the order of parts removed so they are installed correctly.

That does not sound like a bearing to me. More like the dust seal. Nonetheless, you might as well replace both while you have it apart.

That would be nice

Maybe something stuck in there that I can blow out

One other thing-- some longer pieces of allthread can be handy for pulling the end bells back together. Once you get them close, you can use the shorter pieces from the motor.

Good call seber

Blowing out the seals resolved the whine

Must have gotten a piece of wire from my wire wheel or something similar stuck in there
