I picked up this nice metal Benchtop toolbox for $2 at a yard sale last month. I've been keeping it in my car due to doing odd jobs for a couple of relatives/friends.

Was this a K-Mart brand? It seems fairly well made -- maybe even made in the USA.

K Mart like sears did not make any tools but yes indeed that was their brand that they sold. Funny thing but one of my go to ratchets is a 3/8 drive benchtop flex head with smooth action and well made!:thumbup:

I also.had benchtop tools when first starting out. Think I still owe a set of sockets. Saw some bench top wrenches in the dollar bin at the pawn shop today.

I have a 3/8" and 1/4" set in plastic case that I "borrowed" from a coworker back in 01-02 and used it many times as my road set. Was good enough for small roadside repairs and what not. Only recently was it replaced by a more complete black chrome Husky set.

Nice ratchet. I hope the USA can get back to making quality tools again -- even discount tools from K-Mart.

I "need" more ratchets as bad as you do.
Well "needing" A tool here does not count, so you're good.:lol_hitti

Prefer pear head ratchets , But after reading your last post re: Benchtop tools, went straight to bib & won this on evil bay for $4.00 & $5.75 shipping.

Had to go and make sure I wasn't robbed...
Although lower tooth count, they have a good feel to them. A good SK clone.

I have a set of metric combo wrenches I still use occasionally. Bought them new about 20 years ago when a local (at the time) Kmart was closing. They are slightly shorter than Cman RPs, so they’ve helped out in tight spots.

That’s funny. I just noticed last week that the 5/8” combination wrench I had in my hand was a KMart Benchtop brand.

I distinctly remember going to KMart, probably 25 years ago to buy the set for my son, as I was tired of coming home to find my Powercraft, Craftsman, and SK Wayne tools abandoned in the driveway or lawn.

He must have left them at home when he went off to college.

Wonder if he wants them back?

I also have a ratchet like the one posted. It has no brand markings, but I always assumed that it was a Craftsman. Has a really good feel to it. I bet it was part of the Benchtop purchase for my son.

I have some old Benchtop brand raised panel combo wrenches I leave in the fork mounted tool bag on one of motorcycles. I always generally liked them for some reason :D

I might as well add to this thread... Back when I first started in college in 1987 I bought a complete Benchtop socket set in a zipper case with a pair of pliers, adjustable wrench and 2 screwdrivers... Used and abused it for many years and NEVER broke a ratchet or socket... Still have it to this day riding in the tool bag of the Tahoe.

I do hate reviving dead threads but I was going through my grandfathers toolboxes today trying to locate 20 or so missing sockets from my dads Craftsman sets. Came across a sad rusted seized ratchet and decided to tear it apart and see if I could get it working smoothly. Long story short, Here's the final "clean". Works and feels really nice! Benchtop 1/2" , Can't seem to find any info online.
