I hate to ask this question cause it may have been asked in a previous thread before. I have a few above ground and in ground lifts at my working shop . One is a clear floor A-symetric Rotary. Nice lift, but the width is very narrow between the columns and a pain in the **** with truck mirrors or just getting out of the door with a larger car. Also I have a older Western standard width, clear floor, above ground . Great lift except for transmission jobs can be difficult since the cables run under a small ramp in the center. My inground is the old center post in the floor and the lift I choose to still use the most. You can't beat the lifting speed and just overall solid feeling with a heavy vehicle above your head with the old fashion lifts.

The new Bendpak 4 post is for my new hobby shop at my house for the purpose to service the toys and give me parking room in the winter. I will aslo be moving the A-symetric Rotary some day for more of a service lift in a few years to this shop also.
My question is the narrow width and extra hight of the HDSTX better for the Hot rod toys? It looks like you can move the ramps on the HD-9 for narrow vehicles is a plus , but the HD9STX has more headroom. Has anyone worked with both models to give me some input of the pros and cons of the two models? I will use this lift more for detailing and restoration assembly and basic service like oil changes. Not a heavy flat rate rack for production. Space is not a issue since the bay area is in a 40' x 80' shop . But I do not want to utilize wasted space for lift bulk .

Thanks,
Mac:thumbup:

Just to let you know, I have the HD-9XW. It has the option for two different ramp loctions. I only use the narrow one since I bought it and it supports my 2002 GMC 2500HD and my Porsche 356A Speedster. The Speedster wheels are still 100% on the ramps but right at the edge. It can also be lifted high enough to clear a 1982 GMC 4x4 2500 with no lift for parking and can lower to work under comfortably will standing.

Go with the HD-9XW. It gives you the option of parking a truck/suv under it. I had the HD-9ST. its to narrow for suv's/mini vans and pick ups.

I too have a HD-9XW, but have only used the wide setting since day one. I regularly lift Model A Fords to diesel F-250's. It goes extra tall and meets my needs well.

I bought the hd9stx because it takes up less floor space. It is kinda narrow between the posts though. having the extra height is nice, but since I have 12' ceilings I can't use it on most vehicles. I really like the lift, but if I had the space I would get the wider one.

Yep, hd9xw is what we went with as well. It is nice and wide for trucks and stuff to fit in there. Our Dodge fits in no problems, even has plenty of height for it to fit with taller tires

Thanks for all the advice! I do have the space so I guess the wider one is the model I will go with.

There is also now a HD9M which width wise is between the HD9 and the HD9STX. I have the HD9M and have the runways set to the wide position. I have put everything on it from my GMC Sierra 1500 to my VW Golf to my Kioti CK30 tractor. Although the GMC fits the lift, just barely length wise, and I sort of have to work around the lift columns to get at the wheels. For the GMC, I do wish I had gone with the longer HD9xx, but I still would have gotten the M width. Any of the HD9xx series can be ordered in the M width version.
