Bend-Pak Overhead Safety-Switch warning!!

I have a Bend-Pak XPR-10 2 post lift that I bought and installed last October.

No problems with it so far, but today I was doing a Periodic Inspection and found a serious electrical safety issue with my lift, and after calling Bend-Pak they are aware of it and said "it is in QC for review".

On my XPR-10 lift the electrical cord that goes up the motor side post and across the top beam to the safety micro-switch is routed (by the welded in locating tabs) directly inline with the hydraulic cylinder Allen bolt (bleeder) where the cord makes its 90 degree turn at the top of the post. That Allen bolt at the top of the hydraulic cylinder will crush the electrical cord if you let your lift go all the way to the top.

My cord was crushed thru the jacket and one wire was exposed. Not sure how it did not short-circuit. But it was close.

I had assumed erroneously that what Bend-Pak calls the 'carriage stop bolt' (the thru bolt at the top of the post) is what stopped the lift at its upper limit. That turned out to be incorrect. The 'carriage stop bolt' is actually used to stop the top of the lift column from splaying-open according to Bend-Pak.

I ended up replacing my cord and routing it along the opposite side of the hydraulic line (where it makes the 90 degree bend) and securing it to the hydraulic line with a couple of zipties - that was Bend-Paks recommendation.

So go check your lift. This must have been a manufacturing error and not sure how many are affected, but check yours to be safe.

Just happened to me, no damage tho
I was waiting for the cylinder to top out, it did not it touches everything up there : the lock cables hydro cables and power cables

There should be a 2nd micro switch up there to stop it from over locking or hitting those cables
