Bending EGR pipe advice

(STILL) In the process of installing a 5.0 Ford in a Volvo. Been fun and frustrating. Knew that going in.
My current dilema is how to bend w/o kinking (too much) the EGR tube to
mate the 94 Mustang headers to the 00 Explorer EGR. about 45* off.
Heated with my propane torch and it didn't go too well. Not bad but it did start to kink.
What would you do?

delete the egr all together...you can just block that stuff off, and have it shut off in the tune

Fill the tube with sand to help prevent kinking.

Toss it in the trash and block it off.

If the EGR is blocked off or disabled you will get part throttle pinging if the advanced timing for EGR operation is not corrected some way.

You should be able to heat the bellows section with a oxy/fuel torch and bend it in that area. You should keep the EGR valve intact for several reasons (as stated above). If you do not have access to a hot enough torch, bend a coat hanger to the profile you need and take the pipe to a shop that can bend it to match.

Thanks for the reply's ! I have yet to set up my torch at home and don't have the 400$ to buy tanks and fill them. I was worried about the belows area adding heat there but its an easy part to get to so if I screw it up it wouldn't be the end of the world.
I bet 2 propane torches and an extra set of hands would help ?

Bending it in the bellows area will prevent kinking. If you use shot, make sure it is steel, lead will melt out and if you use sand, you will need a LOT more heat than a propane torch will put out.

You should be able to get bottles with a first fill for a LOT less than $400. Try talking to a supplier about starting with a smaller set of bottles and "trade up" later down the road when you can to a larger set of bottles.

Steel shot is probably too "slippery" and would shift too easy. Sand is used for that reason.

Forget oxy/act get yourself a tank of mapp gas and nozzle. You'll have that thing cherry red in a minute.

Was concerned about containing sand due to the small ports but I suppose I
could loop a hose on them.

Let me know what you find out about Mapp. AFAIK there are two kinds of gas and one is supposed to be phased out.

BTW- If you are not doing it already remove the pipe and bend it at the bench.

I just got back from HD after 2 other stores and came home with a Mapp set up but NOT Mapp/Oxy nobody had that.
I got one with a 5 foot hose. Not sure if I'll test it out tonight.

I just set the pipe back up to show what needs done

the newer mapp setups use a special nozzle that twists the gas on the way out helps it pick up more oxygen. Works really good. I have two of them.

I fired it up last night just to see, boy howdy cherry red and fast!
I suspect it'll do the trick.
I am also thinking maybe since I have to add a connector to make this part work, I might just weld a part of the old one to it.(MIG) Then adj. as needed with the Mapp torch.
Should be mild steel right ?

Check with a magnet for mild steel. looks like stainless to me.

Hence why i said Tune it. you can chip the ecu. but then i havent ever had ping at part throttle after blocking the egr off on a 5.0

Some engines have a ping detector but it should not be relied upon. Maybe you could not hear it???

A Chip will work as long as it is done correctly. It is better just to keep the EGR working, especially if there are any emissions inspections or tests to be done. The EGR does not hurt and it saves NOx emissions.

Yes, it varies with the SS alloy used.

Depends on the type of Stainless. The more nickel the less magnetic.
