Search on Bendix Aviation, Bendix corporation, BendixKing Radio and you’ll find a much deeper involvement in 20th century US industry than bicycle brakes.

Thanks Shanny19, I’ve been reading up on the company history online.

I’ve just not been able to find information on this particular tool and it’s use.

I have two of these exact wrenches, Bendix 66852 adjustable spanner, 6-3/4 to 8-3/4 inches. They came from a friend's estate, and he certainly bought things from Lockheed and Douglas aircraft surplus, the Lockheed Burbank plant was not far away from his house. I am suspicious though that these were used on tools not on airplanes, lathe spindle retaining nuts or somehting like that

Alot of hydraulic cylinders have notched nuts that require these wrenches, however most are too tight to break loose with them. They work great once you break them loose with a 3 or 4 foot pipe wrench!
