Hello all!

This is my first post on the forum but I am a long time reader! I actually get the majority of my tool purchasing advice from this site!

So here I am, I have had this cabinet in the back of my shop for years and I want to put it to work (it was actually left by the last owner). I have looked online and can't find any information about how old it is or really anything about P&D parts. I thought maybe I would throw it on here and maybe someone might remember seeing something like this back in the day and could shed some light on it.

Also what can I do to preserve the patina. I was thinking about good WD40 waxing but wasn't sure. I don't really want to spend a lot of money trying to make it really nice since it's just an old cabinet.

Thank you
Mike

Looks like official name was P&D manufacturing company. Looks like Berthold Danziger was one of the principals. Pifith (sic) the other. Acquired by Bendix in 1965

Another source says Peter Piffath below, which is the far more common spelling, used in many more locations, the other was only used in repetitions of a Trade COmission docket.

Supposedly THEY HAD A PLANT AT 19-02 STEINWAY STREET IN Long Island city, New York, made FOMOCO parts, per this link

At least 1935 to maybe 1973 per google books.

A recent book talking about them

Gotta go walk the dog, you can dig into these links more.

I have an older P&D cabinet. It has some damage, and is in storage. I'll be interested in seeing what you find out about them.

P and D Parts = Points and Distributor Parts.
more likely the "P & D" is the first letters of the two founders last names:

funny that in all my years in parts, I never heard of this company - ever. :dunno:

I'd give it a good bath with some mild dish soap like Dawn, dry well, then a rub-down with mineral spirits (pretty much the same thing as WD40 but cheaper) and, after that dries, a coat or two of your preferred auto finish wax.

Nice find!

That was some good information. If I read the tariff document correctly Bendix was only making the P & D like from 68 to 72? It was interesting to see they were making parts in Mexico. I would assume all of their competitors during that time were still producing parts in the US (standard, Delco, Motorcraft).

That cabinet is super cool! That logo looks to be much older and cooler then mine!
