Hi,
I have a HD-9 110v and it has a plug.....My friend is wanting me to help him set up his new garage up. My question is he is getting a HD-9 220v, will it have a plug or do you hard wire it in?

Thanks, Chris

Chris,

The lifts ship standard with a 208-230V power unit - no pigtail. If you opt for the optional 110V-230V unit, you can wire either way. It would come with a 110V pigtail-plug so if ever wired hi-voltage, you would have to cut off the pigtail-plug end.

The only drawback of the 110V-230V unit is the lifting speed - being about 40% slower than the 208-230V power unit.

Is there any benefit to adding a plug to the lift vs hardwiring? I have a 220v outlet in the right place (wired when the garage was built) and I'd rather just add a plug than hardwire it there.

A plug can be quickly unplugged in case the lift gets a mind of its own

That was my thinking as well. Any reason to hardwire other than a little reliability?
(sorry for the thread jack, I thought it was related)

I went out and bought a 50' 220 RV cord and made two cords out of it - ones a regular 220 cord that's 45' long and the other is a short 5' one that is attached to my BendPak HD9 with a plug that can be plugged into the wall or my 45' extension - thus giving me the ability to operate my lift outside, as needed. This has worked out really great, with the long cord playing double duty. I now have a nice long extension cord for my welder and for the BendPak.

You might not think of ever wanting/needing to move your lift within your own garage or outside, but why limit your choices. You just never know what project you'll have in the future. Someday you might buy the caster kit and decide to move your lift outside for the added headroom, better weather, or you so you can pressure wash the underside of your project car or rider mower. Heck, you might even decide to build a new shop out back or simply move to a new place. Having a plug on your HD9 just turns it into a portable and more useful lift.

I think mine came with a plug (unless the electrician added one).

The outlet is switched, so if there was ever an emergency, I could just flip the switch, which is located just to the right of the lift controls.
