I am considering buying a Bendpak HD 9 4 post lift and can't decide whether to buy the standard or narrow version. I would primarily be using it for my old Fords, but would also like to use it for later model cars. I plan on equipping it with the sliding jacks. Is it better to have more space between the tread rails that the standard width unit seems to offer? Thanks, James

IMHO, for almost all cars narrow is the way to go.
Wide is needed for really wide cars with wide tires or trucks, particularly duallies.

Don't get the narrow model unless you just can't fit the standard width in. The standard width gives you adjustable runway locations so you can fit any width vehicle, but also way more drive through room between the posts. You're going to wish you had that space when you use it to store a car on top and park one below.

It also depends on whether you have a single wide door or individual garage doors. If just the one wide door then you might not have room to drive around the outside of the posts on the standard width.

I got the wide one and have no regrets. If it was any narrower I wouldn't be able to drive my pickup on it without folding the mirrors. Even the wide one seems narrow to me. I mainly use it for my Mustang. It works great for that. I would not go with the narrow one unless I absolutely could not fit the wide one.

I have the wide one with ramps set in the narrow setting. Works perfect for 30'-50's style vehicles. Too narrow for my 2500 Chevy but it works. Tires hang over about 1/2" each side.

I would like to have the ramps in the wide position but occasionally I work on 50's European **** and they have narrow tracks.

Gerald is correct. If you have room for the wide version, it has two sets of ramp mounting positions so you can have a wide OR narrow ramp placement, all with just one lift.

Of course, changing the ramp position is a PITA since it's so heavy, but at least you'll have the option.

I have the wide HD-9 and have not had a car on it yet that would not fit in the wide position. If I had the narrow, I'm not sure my F-100 would fit.
