As part of the planning for the installation of a 4 post lift in my garage, I was considering the merits of installing an emergency shut-off switch. Since my ceiling height limited, my thought was what would happen if I was raising the vehicle on the lift, the lift switch failed , and I was unable to stop the lift from raising. I had this "vision" of the top of vehicle crashing into the ceiling of the garage :shocking:

Anyone install an emergency shut-off switch for their lift? If so, how did to you do it and where did you locate it? I was thinking it should be right next to the lift switch :headscrat. Pics would be great

Thanks,
Mordi

It would be very unusual for the switch to fail in the ON position, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra protection if it makes you feel safer. Will the lift be hard wired? If you hooked it up with a plug, that could serve as an emergency stop - just pull the plug. Another way would be to use a 230vac disconnect switch. It could be either the type with a lever on the side, or the most inexpensive way would be to use an air conditioner disconnect, like this:
