I need a little help from people who have installed their HD-9. I’m trying to figure out how to get the cables around the pulley in the crossbeam. One end of the cable has the long threaded section and the other is a crimped fitting. I can’t get either end between the pulley and the back of the crossbeam ( pic1). If I go up with the threaded section it just gets stuck between the pulley and the crossbeam (pic 2). If I come down with the crimped end it can’t turn tight enough to get past the back of the crossbeam (pic 3).
I can’t find any mention of this problem in any of the other install threads or videos so I am guessing I am doing something wrong. So, what is it?

Can the pulley be removed, then install the cable and reinstall the pulley with the cable in place?

This pulley does not remove easily. There are 4 pulleys that are installed after the cables are routed but these come installed from the factory.

Looks like you pull the circlip and then the axle, no?

Yep. Just pull that circlip off. Use a screwdriver and punch it away from pin. To put it back just tap it with something to force it back over pin.

If I remember correctly Junkman did a long write up on the Bendpak 4 Post lifts and suggested to remove all the pulley pins, clean and grease them during installation.

I had a few minutes to work on it yesterday and the circlips come out pretty easily. I was worried that they were going to be a PIA to remove and then reinstall. I wish I had tried on Sunday because I would have been able to complete the install in one day. I will blame the 90 degree temps and 100% humidity for not being able to think clearly. I am hoping to finish the install tonight. Thanks for the help.

I've been researching for a 4-post 8K or 9K for weeks now. The pricing starts around $1800 and goes up. Leaning towards the HD-9. The wrap-around style looks interesting.

Seen just about every youtube video related to lifts. None mentioned removing the pulley that I remember. One did mention to remove the "keeper" bolt that is near the pulley. This "keeper" bolt keeps the cable from falling away from the pulley groove when the cable is unloaded.

That is why I was hesitant to take them out. They do need to come out to route the cable. Actually, if I had to do it over I would have routed the cables through the posts and cross tubes while the posts were still laying on the floor. It would have been much easier then.

I am kicking myself for not removing the pulleys on Sunday when I started the install. If I had, I would have completed it in one day. Unfortunately I have only had a few minutes here and there since to work on it so it is still not done.

Got the install finished?

Yes. The pulleys on the cross beams came out easily. I figured that was what need to happen but just had a brain fart when doing the install. I am going to blame the 90 degree heat and 100% humidity that day.

At some point I will post up a lessons learned. One person with an engine crane can do most of the install in a single day. The only part that really requires help is lifting the posts up.

That is my plan - DIY with hoist. I did my 2 post that way. The crane will lift the posts up pretty high and you can push them the rest of the way and then wiggle them to where you want them. Put base on plywood on plastic if you are trying to avoid scratching a floor. My HD9-XW is on a trailer waiting for my garage to be done.

I'm getting an HD-9 at the end of the month. This guy has a pretty good setup video.

That video is in part why my install went so smoothly. If I were to do it again I would do a few things differently. Basically:

- Lay a pair of posts down and fit the cross bar.
- fit the cables around the pulleys in the cross arms.
- fit the ladder and top caps - adjust all the ladders to their high test position
- loosely attach the bolts/nuts at the bottom of the ladders
- Move the cross bar so it is 2-3 locks up. Basically you want them high enough so you can sit on your **** as you route the cables, air and hydraulic lines under the runways.
- lift the posts up (this is were a second person is helpful.
- repeat for the second set of posts
- lift the runways with an engine crane and place it on the cross bars
- attach runways
- route cables
- attach hydraulic unit and route oil and air lines
- run it up and down a few times, adjust the ladders and go through and tighten everything up.
- giggle like a schoolgirl as you realize you will never need to lay on the cold hard concrete floor again.
