Bendpak HD-9

Guys, I know this subject has been beat to death already, but I've got questions regarding the Bendpak HD-9. I see that Northern Tool is a reseller of Bendpak lifts and they have a local warehouse where I live. Not sure if they would have it shipped there or not, but it would be convenient if so. What I don't see listed in their description is the air lock feature. Has anyone bought one from them or should I go through another dealer? They list it for $2990 with no accessories.

Let me know your thoughts. We are buying another house, so my timeframe to buy the lift is 3-6 months out from now.

Air lock feature? What's that? The HD9 has an air release for the ladder locks, but that's included, not optional. Bendpack always ships for free directly to your local freight terminal, regardless of who the retailer is. Nobody stocks them in their own warehouses.

I believe they just drop ship direct from Bendpak and don't stock it themselves. At least that is the case with the one I bought via Summit Racing.

No complaints at all regarding quality so far. Only been a couple of months so far of course, so can't really comment on the long term reliability yet.

Glad you found the video useful. I know I could have saved many hours during the install if I had known then what I know now. I tried to show all the little things I had to figure out on my own that they neglect to mention in the manual.

They don't get better quality than this for the price.

The question about quality was from some posts I've read stating that bend pak qualify has diminished lately. But you know if it's on the internet it must be true, right?

I considered the bigger one also, I have a long wheelbase sprinter van which is too big for my HD9 but didn't want the lift taking up that much space the rest of the time. Was working under the sprinter last weekend and kind of regretted it... beyond that no regrets on my HD9.

Nope, that is the big advantage of a 4 post over a 2 post. You can also have it on caster wheels so you can move it around (not with the car on it, can just move the empty lift).

Happy with mine as well. I have already moved mine to a different spot in my shop so really appreciate the casters. I did the bridge jack which makes wheel work awesome.

Based on prices ($2895.00) for just the lift from other suppliers such as ASE Deals and Northern Tool, it looks like it's about $1100.00 for this company to transport and install it.

Normally I would just do it myself, but I'm not sure I am comfortable trying to assemble it myself even with a hoist or a forklift. So does it sound like that is a decent cost for them to do all the work?

$1100 is about average in NY also. They usually will provide the oil for the pump and warranty the install.

I purchased an HD-9 several months ago. Install through the distributor I purchased it from was $800. The installer also picked up the lift from delivery location. I also purchased rolling jack RJ45 that was installed at the same time.
I had initial problems as the hydraulic ram was leaking 2 days after install. I immediately called distributor I purchased it from as well as Bendpak customer service. It took a good 4-5 weeks to get a replacement cylinder shipped and installed, no cost to me but lots and lots of phone calls and confusion.
All said and done since that time I have had no additional issues and love the convenience of the lift. Bendpak and distributor also split the cost and shipped me a pair of aluminum ramps as a gesture of goodwill for all the headaches regarding the leaky hydraulic ram and not being able to use the lift for a bit over 5 weeks.

After owning my HD-9 for several years, the cables starting sagging after a few days of putting a car on the lift, raising it, and lowering it by pressing the handle to allow it to rest on the ladders. Now, after owning my HD-9 for about 5 or 6 years, the hydraulic ram is leaking.

When you look at Bendpak's website today, they have a "NO LEAKING" little image among the HD-9's product description. This kind of leads me to believe that this was once a issue that plagued some users and now it's resolved?

Unfortunately I don’t think this is the case as I purchased my lift this past May and I experienced a leaking hydraulic ram (cylinder) just 2 days after install.
When I contacted Bendpak they requested I snap a picture of the ram as they advised me they source them from a couple different factories in China and before they could ship a replacement they needed to know which factory This one came from.
Bendpak paid for the install of the replacement ram but the process took many weeks and at least 15-20 phone calls to resolve as unnecessary mistakes occurred throughout the entire process. It was a very frustrating process as it was handled poorly through Bendpak customer service. It could have and should have been an opportunity for them to shine but instead they dropped the ball several times.
The gift of aluminum approach ramps was based on my suggestion. The distributor I purchased from pushed the issue with Bendpak because he was a standup guy and understood what I went through.

Spoke to Bendpak. $480 to replace the cylinder! Ouch!!!

Apparently, some cylinders that have a blue colored band around them are serviceable and have a seal repair kit available for $80. The band around my cylinder is yellow, so I'm out of luck.

Replacement cylinder will only have a 1 year warranty.
