Purchased a new BP HD-9ST a few years ago. When i first assembled the lift i realized the lowering speed of the lift(with no load) was really slow. By slow i mean in the range on maybe a 10min time frame from the highest lock position to the ground.i was told the "break in" of the cylinder would correct the problem.2 years later its the same thing. Any help or tips to correct this problem would be appreciated?? It got to the point its so frustrating that ill pull out my old jack and lift my car that way.

Call BendPak so they can trouble shoot. My HD-9 goes down at almost the same rate even without a car on it. I have to wonder if there's a block in a return hose. Anyway, BendPak should be able to address this for you. Hydraulics are pretty straight forward and not too difficult to correct. Best of luck! Let us know what happens.

I did call bend pak when i first realized the problem. They told me to check a filter that is inline mounted in the pump for blockage from dirt. I did that. the filter was perfectly clean. Then they told me with more usage of the lift the cylinder would "break in" and it should speed up. It never did.

Can I ask why you raise it all the way up with no load on it?

i think it supposed to work that way.
you dont want it just falling if you broke a hose do ya?
there is a flow restritor that meters the amount of bleed.
2 post lifts have same restritor .
I got a rubber strap that holds lowering handle open while im doing something else.

Ya, but not 10minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!! that's rediculously slow (unless OP was exagerating). My BP takes about 1 minute to fall from full height, unloaded and about 30 seconds loaded.

Not exagerating at all. Takes a very long time to to come down. Like i said before sometimes id rather pull out the old jack rather than use the lift cause of this reason. Its very frustrating.

If it comes down quickly with a load on it, then why would you be pulling out a floor jack rather than using the lift. I would be looking for something binding if it is as slow as you say. Mine isn't fast when empty, but if there is weight on the ramps, then it is faster. I can see no reason that you would be putting the lift in the up position unless there was something on it, or you were sweeping the floor. I also wonder if you have the wrong weight hydraulic fluid installed.

Because its in a two car garage and i park a car under it.Only bring it down when i need to work on a car.So most of the time there is no load on it.
