bendpak Jp3/jp6, useful or useless?

I know the rj45 is the thing to have, but right now i have other projects that need attention before i drop a grand on one.

The jacking plates are much less.
I'm a cash type of guy, if i don't have the extra cash, i don't buy it, not much into using credit cards. So if the jacking plate can get me by for a while, i'd consider it.

My lift is bendpak drive on, forgot what model, but ramps are 13ft long (i think) and it goes to like 7 feet high because i'm 6'1 and can easily walk under it. It's only a couple years old.

Issue is that i'd like to take the wheels off my mustang and let the rear hang, but the frame rails and subframe connectors that i can put jack stands under sit just inside the ramps (not by much)

The jp3 should be plenty strong, but from the pics, just not sure how secure i'd feel with jack stands on it.
Is the width even enough to safely hold the average jack stand?
I assume there is no lip on it either to keep a jack stand from sliding off.

No way in hell i'm using bottle jacks like in the picture.

Any thoughts?

My 4 post (different brand) came with a jacking plate like that. I bought a package that came with 2 rolling jacks and have never used the jacking plate. It does look stout enough to hold up but that has to be a pain in the *** to use.

You might check Craigs List for "rolling jack" I have seen some on there before.

Need to know what model lift you have. According to ASE Deals, the JP3 won't fit on some 4 post lifts set in the wide configuration. All you get with the JP3/6 is the plate, The bottle jacks are extra.

Ok, So i found the nameplate.

It's and HD-7P.

Thanks for any input
I knew those bottle jacks didn't come with it, didn't matter they just don't look safe to me anyway.

I'm as bright as I look in the picture above.
Bump. Sorry to bump up such an old thread.

I am trying to find a new lift that fits my needs. I like the HD-9, the main unknown right now is the jack setup.

My problem is the low ride height of my car. At the current ride height, under the Jacking points of the car, there is only 3-1/2" to the floor/runway, etc.

I know the RJ-45 is listed as a 4-1/2" min height, and that "might" clear if slid up from the back of the car, and lifts up the subframe, but otherwise I am SOL, and that's a $1000 gamble I don't want to take.

I see that the JP6 is listed as adjustable (in width is my guess), but I don't know how much lower than the runway it sits. From that measurement I could figure out how short of a bottle jack I would need to make this all work.

My ideal setup would be a hyrdaulic/air bottle jack like this

I'm just trying to get an idea on how much room I have, if any body has one of these, it would help my plan this out.

Thanks

X...

No worries about the thread being old, I made it for a reason.

For the record, I was given a jp3 as a gift (I think the jp6 adjusts for width not height.

I would not buy it again. Didn't line up with height of decks and I had a great fear of jacks and jack stands sliding off the side.
My neighbor (professional welder) brought it up to the right height and welded rail down the side which makes it better, but still not good.
My subframe falls between the runway and the jp3 which meant without modification to make the heights match it would be useless.

I have found a generic rolling jack that will probably work (way cheaper than rj45) but I spent my toy money I was going to use on it on a pinball machine, lol. I will be back on that purchase soon.

My exhaust is low, something I may or may not fix so I think it will hit all rolling jacks regardless of brand. For the time being when I get the rolling jack, I will likely just run some 2x10's where the front wheels sit to get me the extra height.
From my research, all the slide or rolling jacks would hit.

Edit: my jp3 also came in black as opposed to the blue that I was expecting.

HF has a bottle jack, #69475, has a min height of 8". I bought it because the jacks that bendpak sent me with the jack plate were too long to fit under my Taurus SHO. The jack plate fits below the height of the runways and with the short HF jack it just fits under the rear subframe of the SHO. I have the RJ45 for the front and have never had a problem fitting it under the SHO, it's pretty low in the front, but probably not as low as your 3.5".

Just measured my RJ-45. Without adapters it sits 2 inches above the runway. With the circular hard rubber adapter, it sits 3 inches above the runway.
I have a Bendpak HD-9xw.
Hope this helps.

One of the other issue i found with the rj45 is that if the center bar sits under your frame (on my car it will), you need another set of adapter pads that slide on that section and they cost another couple hundred bucks. Really adds up.

Piece of wood or some barn mat (hard rubber) works really well too.

No experience with the Bendpak, I have an autolifters 4 post. The problem I find with the jack plates and narrow cars is getting a jack under the lifting points in the first place. On the mustang, the preferred jack point is the pinch point under the rocker... which is on top of the ramp, not over the jack tray. I scissor jack can really help but you need to have the car shifted to one side a bit to have enough room for the scissor jack to be fully on the ramp.

I had the same issue as the RJ45 was too tall for the ground clearance of my car. I bought the Jp6 but could not find a bottle jack that met the height requirements. Instead I bought two scissor jacks which sit about 3 inches high. They have worked perfectly for raising the wheels. The jp6 is strong, so no problem. I would also recommend not buying their oil drain pan as their is very little clearance to get a socket wrench between the pan and the car's drain plug. I fabricated a unit that drops about 8 inches below the rails where I can rest my 10qt plastic oil collector. The unit when not in use folds up flush with the bottom of the rails so it doesn't create a clearance problem for the car underneath. I will send pictures later if interested.

As for the oil collector, why not just buy a telescoping pan that is connected to a bottle? Harbor freight has one for $50.
I been using this one for years http://www.usatoolwarehouse.com/usatoolwarehouse/LIS-11102PROMO.html

my 19x19 garage doesn't have any room left for the HF oil drain can. This doesn't take up any valuable real estate and that's why I built it.
