BendPak Lift Question

Hi All,

New to the forum and hoping someone can help me out and may have had a similar problem. I have a BendPak HD9ST and yesterday I ran the car all the way up and locked the safety locks on their highest setting. When I disengaged the safety locks and began to move the lift down, only three of the four locks disengaged. It made the lift platform slightly incline until I noticed it , and I ran it back up to disengage all safety locks before moving all the way down.

Not sure if that is what caused it but now I am hearing a low hum, vibration in my lift columns and have no idea what it could be. It appears to be resonating through the ramps and sounds like something may be dragging. Do I need to lubricate anything? I don’t know if it could be the slide blocks or if maybe the columns got knocked off center somehow? The lift appears to be functioning correctly it’s just really loud and the vibration that is now happening doesn’t give me a pleasant feeling. Any information you all have is greatly appreciated.

Motor is failing. My BP two post 10k Lift made a similar sound before the motor failed.

Got a SPX powerpack as a replacement. The power packs are more or less universal, so you don’t need to order directly from Bendpack.

The improperly adjusted release cable that caused the release lug hang up is probably not related to the motor vibration.

Welcome.

The first one sounds like you just didn’t lift high enough before disengaging the locks, or one of the locks is a bit sticky, or you didn’t have enough air pressure. What are you using for air?

Second one sounds like one or more of the ladders are rubbing against the blocks. They should slide freely. No lube, dry. I made that mistake once, and the lube actually gummed things up and made the noise you are describing.

Finn, it’s interesting because the vibratio/hum isn’t consistent. It’s only at certain points when raising and lifting which makes me think it isn’t square. The motor has brand new and I have only had the lift installed for three weeks. Think out of square columns could contribute to that? I really think something may be rubbing somewhere.

LX, would out of alignment columns cause the rubbing? The noise vibration isn’t happening everywhere, just at certain points when I raise and lower it. I don’t have anchor bolts but did recently place rubber underneath the columns to prevent slide and movement

Forgot that the four post has air actuators, but it still sounds like the cable equalizers aren’t correctly adjusted, so all four locks don’t release simultaneously.

My motor failed after maybe three years. The vibration prior to total failure was pretty horrendous. It varied depending on carriage lift height, sort of a guitar string effect vs finger position. The columns have a resonant frequency, and the position of the carriage effectively changes the system stiffness and response to the input from the vibrating, failing motor. New powerpack fixed everything. The windings failed on the original motor, and it wasn’t cost effective to just replace the motor, if I could even find one.

I have an an HD-9 , this happened to me years ago when it was new, it was a small air leak at the lock motor, scared the **** out of me , make sure all is adjusted and level with no leaks. I lub the pulleys and locks 2 times a year. R
It's 15 years now and only issue was a busted hydraulic hose.

I’ve got an hd9 lift my full-size lifted bronco on35s gotta be close to 6000 lbs with full tank of gas this is my 2nd hd 9 the guy that did my first install who really knew his **** recommended the lift be bolted down and I agree in my opinion those columns need to be square and plumb 100pct I think most problems are from bad installations like the assholes who installed my current hd9 wound up giving them the boot and plumbed,squared and bolted mine down correctly having said that I know there are guys out there rolling them around and have no issues my 2cents

Mine got noisy and it ended up being the ram piston. Researched it and added recommended hydraulic fluid to the existing fluid and it fixed the problem.
