Bendpak MD6

Hi all

Going to look at a MD6XP, looks clean in pics, but seller states rams leak when above second lock position.

My questions is does this sound like general wear? Specifically with them leaking when extended. I know to look for wear or damage on the rods but I have never looked at a lift. If it really is just seals then Im good. Bendpak still makes them and they support the older ones.

I was told there were several causes for this, I have one. First is if it doesn't get used and sits. Second is just general wear. I thought there was something that I saw a while back about some issues with them leaking and a redesign of the seals or something. If you can get a number off the lift call BP and see what they say and what the rebuild kit would cost. I believe a local should could rebuild them.

Mine had my Porsche on it in the highest position for several years. When it lifts to the top it squirts a little fluid from one cylinder on to the adjacent wall. Local guy said it was a seal.
Like crx says, they can be rebuilt locally by any cylinder repair shop. Bendpak is good but a new cylinder was $700 and I never could get an answer on a rebuild or rebuild kit, mine is 12 years old and the cylinder is slightly different. Biggest pain was you can't call Bendpak and talk directly to a tech, only online support is available. Rebuilding the cylinder is this winter's equipment project.
Seems to still lift and hold fine.

Shouldn't be any thing special to rebuild. Its $800 so even if a rebuild cost a couple hundred bucks should still be a decent price.

I paid $75 for a local place to rebuild a ram from my rotary a few months back. A hydraulic ram is a hydraulic ram. Just because it’s in (insert specific name brand and model of lift) doesn’t make it so special that only that company can rebuild or replace it lol.
