Bendpak Paint Issues (Pictures)

I purchased a Bendpak HD9-XL about a year ago. I pressure washed the runways on my lift today (With a very wide spray, low pressure tip) and had some areas were the paint is coming off.

It seems to me that there may have been poor prep work before they were painted. Also, near the large spot where the paint is lifting, you can see some scrapping in the finish from when the lift was shipped to me.

The question is, do I just touch up the spots up with spray paint? Is this expected/acceptable to have happened? Do I contact Bendpak about it? I know it is a piece of equipment and it is impossible to keep it looking like new. However, it was expensive and I would like to keep it nice as possible.

Any thoughts/input is appreciated!

That is a powder coated finish correct?

I think Bendpak lifts are painted not powder coated.

Are you talking about the texture they add to the runways to make them anti-slip?

Looks like bad prep so it's lifting or maybe the paint was wore thin or chipped and corrosion has started underneath and spread. I think I can see other spots. The pressure washing wasn't the issue, it just exposed a problem. If it isn't under a warranty then I would strip the surface, prep, prime and paint with a 2k paint. If you just use spray paint you will have to do it again since a standard enamel from a can probably won't hold up another 6 years. They sell 2k paints in a spray can now, pop bottom to activate and spray as normal, and will provide a chemically hardened paint that will last. Good luck.

What about sanding it down and spraying it with textured bed liner?

That may be a better option actually. I wonder what chemicals were spilled on that surface that also could have damaged the paint. Actually I think rolling on a good bedliner will be the better option.

I think bed liner would look like **** in short order, rough texture means it's impossible to clean, and those ramps get to looking like **** in a hurry.


The more I see of the problems people have with Bendpaks, the happier I am that I didn't buy one.

That's texture?? Looks like little craters in the paint, or is it sand type texture??

It is a sand like texture for traction.

No fluids were spilled on this spot. I am in Ohio, so there has been salt on it. I would have to think it is a pretty poor paint if salt residue could harm it.

I have BP I bought 8 years ago and the PC has held up perfect, but that don't mean much. I know you said no brake fluid got spilled there, but that's what it looks like to me. That's an awfully large area for the sand blast dude to have missed or it may have had oil spilled on it right before the PC was applied too. I'd suggest cleaning up to blemished areas, prime with a self etching epoxy primer and figure out a paint that matches. Good luck.

I guess what others have said just don't matter huh. That's the texture that BP puts on. And it's not always real even either. I have heavy and light spots on mine too.

the liquid salt they spray around here is nasty stuff. its not uncomon to see a truck that dosent get washed rusting in about 5 years

I would clean it all up real well prime it and rolled new red paint on it. Industrial type paint. It would bother me also but what do ya do?

Maybe a roll of industrial anti-slip/safety tape would do. I've thought about doing that to mine once it starts looking a bit worse.

That is corrosion from road salt. It will happen every year. Wire brush, some oil based red paint, and a brush. Keep at it once a year and you'll be fine.
