Hi everyone. I am trying to purchase a Bendpak low ceiling 12,000 lb lift. A day after paying for it and arranging shipping to nearest Freight Terminal .BendPak says they can‘t ship that lift on a Less Than Truckload basis because they are afraid of damage. They will only ship it that way if I sign a damage wavier ,which I am unwilling to do. They will only ship via a flat bed truck. My bobcat will only lift about 2,000 lbs and the lift weighs about 2,300 in the crate. I have seen problems in the past juggling forklift rental and truck arrival. I have an email receipt confirming the original deal to shipping to terminal. Should I argue with or just cancel the whole deal. If I can’t get fair service in the beginning what chance do I have going forward?

The longer it sits at the terminal, the greater the likelihood it will get damaged by the people at the terminal. (They will scoot it around like a hockey puck.)
The trick is to get a HD trailer, tow it with a pickup truck and have them load it for you at the terminal. When you get home, you can cut the crate apart and move the pieces inside. (You will need to move these monsters around anyway...) My wife helped me and it wasn't that bad. We used furniture dollies to move the posts around the driveway and into the garage which worked really well. The hardest part was getting the posts on the ground/dollies.

If bendpack has expressed concerns over LTL, listen to them. I've been dealing with an abnormal amount of damages lately, it's borderline out of control. Material gets delayed at a terminal and all bets are off...
What bobcat can only lift 2k?
Anyway to get more details on the crate? I bet you can split it easy at offload or even have bendpack pack into 2 "units".
We have had a ton of damage this past year with LTL freight. We inspect everything at delivery and if its bad enough it gets refused. Problem is figuring out which freight carrier has the least issues. Do you have any friends with a commercial business / address and a forklift that you can have it shipped to?

Ship it to a place with a forklift and pay them to receive it and then load your trailer

Depends what your time is worth. I'd cancel and just buy from someone else that has their **** together.

Drag it to the back of the trailer, lift the back end, drag it out until you can drop the back, reposition and lift the front. Now the truck can be moved forward and you can lower it to the ground.

Bendpak is doing you a favor. Going LTL across various terminals will most likely cause damage to your lift (mine had some damage, but it was mostly cosmetic and I got over it). Bendpak is trying to get your lift to you safely, it's not their fault that you don't have a method to off-load it (which, is the problem with any large delivery really).
If you can't get the lift delivered in the way you need, then you probably need to go with someone local and pay them to deliver/offload, but that normally includes they set it up for you too. So that means you'd cancel your current order, no harm no foul. But you will pay more $.
Or as someone else suggested, figure out a way to slide it/angle it off the back of a flat bed, rest part of it on the ground, lay down the other end, and then pick it apart.

Pick up one end of the lift/crate and drag it 3/4 of the way off the truck and lower that end to the ground. Re-rig your forks/chain to the remaining bit inside the truck, lift up, and tell the driver to pull forward. Once clear, lower your forks.Bobcat s570 rated operating capacity 1950 lbs. I thought you were just talking about the final mile. This doesn't surprise me, though. I have 3 of their lifts and I picked them all up at a terminal. All had damage that I just had to "deal with."Bendpak won’t ship it to terminal
In order to get a pretty lift, you do need it shipped flatbed. They say they will ship anywhere you want - you just need to find a friend with that forklift.

I was prepared to unload it myself at my shop with my Deere 340 skid steer. The driver called from twenty miles out and asked if I had a car trailer…. He called in a favor at the local hardwood basketball flooring mill and conned them into letting us use their dock. They unloaded the lift from his trailer and ran it down the ramp to my waiting trailer.
Took maybe ten minutes.
I was prepared to unload it myself at my shop with my Deere 340 skid steer. The driver called from twenty miles out and asked if I had a car trailer…. A good driver that delivers locally all the time has connections with different places. Its not uncommon to have things shifted around during the course of their day to make it easier for everybody. I have done it many times. But those drivers are seeming to become fewer and fewer.Or do it like I did mine.

That's odd they won't ship to a terminal. I had no issues with my Bendpak 12APX. They really do a great job on packaging too. I was impressed. I would think your Bobcat would lift it though.

I did this with machine shop equipment. We had 2 Monarch 10EE lathes, a Bridgeport mill and a bandsaw on the roll back. Tipped it all up and slid the machines into the garage doorway. Rolled the machines across the garage on steel pipes. The roll back driver was very good. He clearly did this before. The winch was connected to the rear most machine and they all slid down in unison when he tipped the bed up. Impressive. No skid steer was used.Solution 3.5.. have a roll back tow tuck there and have him winch it on his flatbed then drive and tilt it into your space (tug off with skid steer). We did this with a new crated conveyor pizza oven once.
