Why wasn't I given a "special offer" price when I bought what was clearly one of the first MDS-6KF's you guys made (given how many problems with parts/fitment/design there was) and then spent a year going back and forth with you guys fixing it?

Good side-by-side comparison to show how beasty our V-Max Elite air compressors are when standing next to other brands - all with same "advertised" horsepower (7.5) and 80-gallon tank. How some can rate their motors as 7.5 HP is beyond me.

Tank looks good and certifications you mention are fine, but don't most compressors have to be certified to sell? What more can you say about the motor?

P.S. if everything is scaled apportionately the 7.5 looks "beasty" enough :3gears:

These are UL, CSA and ASME approved for North America. Below are some feature shots of our 7.5HP model including motor details.

A few GJ members have already jumped on the offer. Here's one getting ready to ship to a lucky Garage Journal member.

Maybe it’s mine. I see mine shipped yesterday! I’ve not posted in the forum but once before. I will write an introduction and review the compressor later. We built a 40 x 60 shop so we needed a compressor. This offer came up at a good time.

I ordered a 7580V-601 7.5 HP, 80‐Gallon Vertical.

I'm going to compare/replace? my 5hp 60 gal I've used for 30yrs now. Old one worked just fine and really wasn't too loud even with a 3450RPM motor. Using the blast cabinet did task it some. It will be interesting to compare to the BendPak.

Should be here 7-10 days I'm told.

This deal looks very interesting!
Can you tell me what it would cost to get it into Canada? I mean taxes, delivery, duty, import fees, the whole thing / bottom line.

After being burned so many times importing from the U.S., with extra fees, (call them import, shipping brokerage or any name for an extra $$$) I am worried about making a decision without all the info needed.

Steve

P.S. Am I assuming (I know dangerous) correctly, that a 50 amp circuit will do for the 7.5hp unit.?

Got it. Looks to be package well. Next challenge is to unpack and try to fit it into the corner without a fork lift or pallet jack.

It's big! I'll use the 2post to lift it off the crate then set it down-- then Maybe roll it on 3/4 pex pipe. It's going in the corner of the shop.

Will you talk to the wife for me... she doesn't understand how important it is to have one of these. It will go well with my BenPak lift.

Got mine ordered today....

I'm anxious to see it in the garage now.

Now I'm having visions of it showing up during a snow storm & getting the fork lift stuck in the driveway.

The stamping is a bit light on the tank tag, but do I see 1.2 mega Pascal in both ratings?

Got things uncrated finally. Packing/crating was good. The manual is hiding under the compressor and much to my surprise I found an actual test sheet for this unit. Valuable for startup/amps run time and other info. The unit has No oil and has a Huge sump. I ordered a gal of Royal purple synthetic compressor oil.

Initial thought.-- Big/Huge, Mother of all vertical compressors and maybe this is too much for me. But after comparing it to my 60Gal 5hp it still should fit in the same area. Tank diameter is 24.5 inches compared to my 60gal which is 20 inches. Biggest difference is the pump width when viewing it from the front. You will need about 36-40 inch clearance. The pulley (2 belts) is Very nice. I’ve never seen a compressor of this size with such a nice heavy duty belt drive.

Unit is well built, castings are clean, and welds are solid with no splatter. Electric mag starter, switches, gage, wiring and tubing does Not give you the feeling of (made in china) Compare to similar industrial units, It does look the part.

Now I need to complete this install which in my case I’m going to wire a 50amp 6/2 wire and disconnect. I also need to come up with some kind of “foot/hockey puck" mount system (4 pads are provided). That’s on the plate next. I got some ideas there I’m working on.

We will see if this is all smoke and mirrors or not. Looks is one thing, but for me the performance (which includes a Low noise level with high CFM output) is what I’m waiting for now.

Just got mine today. NitroShark said it well and his pictures are way better than mine. It looks like a beast. Especially the pump. It's more than I need, but the deal was right. Unit was very well packed. Some rubber foot pads, the manual and test sheet, and the intake filters were the only things not attached. Was really worried if freight driver would pull it up my very short but sloped driveway with the pallet jack, and whether the crate would fit under the 7' garage door, with 1.5" concrete lip, on the pallet jack. He did and it did! Barely. Driver pulled on pallet jack, I pushed on crate, and the whole thing went very smoothly. Very happy about that.

The fit and finish looks really nice. Great first impression. Time will tell. I'm not an expert on build quality, so I defer to others there. I've got to clean out a space for this in my garage and figure out how to get it there, so not sure when I will be able to test it out.

I retrieved mine from the local Estes terminal on Monday the 22nd. Got it to the shop and left it on the trailer in the shop. We unloaded it and sat, more like pushed, it in place yesterday. My son law wired the disconnect switch and hooked up the compressor. We added the oil and flipped the pressure switch and ...nothing happened.

After doing some trouble shooting and comparing the actual wiring to the wiring diagram in the book and comparing it to the loose sheet that was sent with the compressor we soon found the motor starter was not wired according to either one. We decided to rewire the starter to match the loose sheet that was sent with the compressor.

I will try to explain what was needed to be changed. If you are not familiar with motor starter and motor control circuits you may need some help with this.

One thing to note is that the wiring diagram uses incorrect nomenclature. This is a 240v single phase compressor. The wiring diagram and the book label one leg of the 240v as “N”. That is very misleading. The legs of the 240v should be labeled as “L1” and “L2”. Each leg has 120v to ground. One leg is NOT a neutral!

Another thing that can be confusing is that they use a 3 phase starter.

So here is how we did it. I am doing some of this from memory as I left the drawing at the shop. Follow this at your own risk or get qualified help if you need it.

You should be able to take the wiring diagram and follow along with this description. Just remember “N” is really “L2”.

We hooked L1 and L2 as shown on the wiring diagram to terminals 1 and 3 one the starter. They are also marked L1 and L2. It’s the first two top terminal on the left.
The motor leads at the bottom of the starter we left one lead on T1 and moved the other lead to T3. According to the wiring diagram.
There is a wire that goes from the bottom of the starter back to the top. We connected it from T2 at the bottom back up to terminal 5 at the top which is also labeled L3.

For the control circuit side you have to have one leg of the 240v going to A1 and one leg going to terminal 96. This way when the pressure switch is closed it completes the circuit.

Here is our connections for the control circuit.

A2 terminal to the coil goes to terminal 96 (yellow wire). Wire from terminal 95 goes up to terminal L2.

This worked as it should. We sat the compressor on the rubber pads that were furnished. It sits there and doesn’t vibrate hardly at all. It is surprisingly quite for how much it pumps. I guess it came up to pressure after the 30 minute break in period in 5 minutes or so. Maybe even less. I didn’t time it.

The one thing I kind of wonder is how long the 200v coil will last with 240v across it?

Hope this helps. I will admit I’m not the best at explaining things. Especially writing it down.

You are welcome to message me if I can help.

I do have some pics of picking it up and unloading it. I will attempt to post some later.

I almost forgot to mention. I downloaded the manual from BendPak web site and the wiring diagram in the downloaded manual match the loose sheet that was shipped with the compressor.

Correct a mistake in the control description. That’s what I get for trying to write this from memory.
Jack

Re: BendPak V-Max Elite air compressors (GJ members only)

I have had a couple of questions concerning my wiring description above. I will take a couple of photos later and post them.

Mainly I see that I used T1, T2 and T3. I mean the corresponding terminals at the bottom of the overload block.

It's working good so far...

It built full pressure from an empty in tank in 5.5 minutes & cycles from 145 psi to 175 psi in just over 1 minute.

When it first came on, it was so quiet, I thought something was wrong, like it wasn't running at full speed. I was relived to find out that it is supposed to sound this way.

I picked up my compressor at the freight terminal on Friday the 3rd. I was impressed in the amount of packing it had. Got it home and unloaded with my tractor. Removed the packing and was very happy in the condition. Not a scratch.
I'm in the middle of building cabinets for a basement remodel so it will be a few days before I can move it into location and hook it up.
It's a beast and is more compressor than I really need. I was looking at the new scroll compressor from Eastwoods but decided this was a better compressor or less money. Happy to see the updated wiring diagram, at lot easier to understand.

Mine came today. I didn't have time to take pics coming off the truck as I had to immediately travel out of town for work but I will take pics when I get back. It was packed incredibly well and I didn't have time to unpack anything so the pics will be exactly how it arrived. It looked flawless and I can't wait to get it setup. I'm really glad I saw this forum post!

1st Mod :D

Rolled my new compressor in its new home (AKA) cave man style with ¾ PVC tube.

I made some mounting pads out of 3” aluminum and tapped the compressor feet with a M20X1.5 fine thread. Now I have adjustable feet.

The whole deal fits well in the corner of the building

I also jumped on this deal today so it should arrive sometime next week. Can't wait to put it to use and give it a review.
