Took a class at our folk school to make a box that has both Yupik and Scandinavian influence.
The sides are steam bent native white spruce stitched together with spruce root.
The top and bottom are hollow carved with gouge and sloyd knife.
The bottom is fastened to the sides with birch nails.
The handle is split from a knot and left as split, then lashed to lid with spruce root.
Really fun and learned a bunch.
