I love my benwil lift, but had a couple problem with the motor. It been sent out to fix several time and each time it cost 500-700. It broke again, a couple months after the warranty was over sent it in and they want another 650 for repairs. At this point Ive decided against it, but they want to charge me 180 just for the inspection fee.

I wouldn't mind fixing the motor but if it breaks again in 2 years my better option may be to just buy new. I've paid 2k+ over the last 5 years to fix the motor and it doesn't even come with a 1 year warranty.

Is there an alternate high quality motor that I can use that I wont have to worry about it failing in another 2 years or am I better off just buying another lift?

What kind of motor is it? $650 should get you a brand new motor. That kind of money to repair a motor is insane unless its some high HP setup.

I have submitted a request for a quote from svii, and am waiting for a reply.
It seems highly unlikely they'll return the motor without me paying that inspection fee, but its strange seeing the cost of a new motor may be cheaper than repairing it.

I am not sure if this is the original or an oem motor, but its made by Meidensha, single phase induction motor, Repulusion start 4p-2kw. volts 230.

Whatever you do, buy an American made motor if at all possible. Used to be a purchasing manager and went through all the Chinese ones, used to average 4 bad motors out of a crate of 48. CEO wouldn't let me source it anywhere else. They were junk.

SVI recommends to change the whole power unit as they no longer supply a motor. Is there another place where I can find a replacement motor will any single induction motor with the same HP, be able to work the lift without having to modified or change any of the hardware/wiring?

We need pictures, I had two benwil lifts, one had a normal style power unit. The other one had a large box with a motor on the side mounted at the top of one of the posts. If I remember the motors are kind of special in the way they attach to the pump assembly. Pictures would help out a lot.

I'll get pictures tomorrow. The motor is located in a large box on top of the post.

I think that style motor has a weird connection to the pump.

if its a Toshiba it should be a good motor, it may be made in Japa but still a good motor. Make sure you are getting it good power or the electrician who installs should make sure you are getting all 3 phases & your protection is setup correctly. I probably have one you can have cheap

It's a single phase motor. The guy who posted this thread has also apparently abandoned it. He has not even been back to the site since 08-12-2014.
