Measure 11/16, wondering what they were for, search on this forum found Outlaw saying they are a copper beryllium alloy, don’t grind on them! Why I found four in one place is a mystery. Polish a little and make a lamp? (Laughing).IMG_5573.jpg

Don't polish them. You don't want to make dust of the beryllium alloy, and polishing is just a milder form of grinding.

BeCu tools are used for a number of things. Usually they're called for in environments where a spark could be dangerous.

Non-sparking wrenches. Commonly used in oil, gas, mining, and other industries with potentially explosive products and/or environments.

I'd be happy to take one or two off your hands if you're interested in a trade.

Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app. As for the cancer risk, I’ve been doing brakes and clutches since I was 15, lots of sandblasting, and my fair share of nicotine...used lots of carb cleaner without gloves (who had those back then?), even cleaned airplane wing de-icing boots with Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone. These wrenches would have to run like Hell to kill me before all the other ****...

This comes up from time to time. Beryllium is many thousands of times more dangerous than anything else you listed. How much exposure you'd get though is a different matter.

Continued breathing of Be dust can cause problems, especially over extended time.

Be alloys are commonly and routinely machined and ground in industry with coolants with no harmful effects. BeCu alloys are very common in molding for thermal properties, as pure copper is too soft. It is also used in hand tools for non-sparking properties. Some Aluminum Bronze alloys have been used as alternatives in both applications and are ALMOST as good. Political correctness and lawyers may make BeCu far less common than it has been.

As noted above, most alloys are less than 5% Be, often considerably less.
You won't die if you pick one up.

It only takes one exposure if you are sensitive to beryllium. They test blood for it annually if you work in an environment with beryllium like remediations.

They are non-sparking and usually fetch a pretty penny. I had a whole set of Be tools at one point until they were stolen (probably scrapped for brass).
