Best 1/4" Magnetic Bit Holder (Screwdriver)?

I was thinking something from PBSwiss, any ideas? I know Snappy makes one, but ti's pricey, even more expensive than the PBSwiss which comes with bits.

I have the Snap-on and an Ace hardware (non mag). The Snap-on is nice but nothing special. A drawback with PB Swiss is the ease of warranty.

But really....do you think you will ever break a 1/4 mag bit holder?
I believe I ended up with the S/O because I couldn't find any magnetic ones locally and would have to pay shipping on an internet order so I picked one up from the truck.

Out of these, I'd say the Apex is the best built + magnetic with a retaining ring. Solid build.

I picked a few up on Ebay for $5 each plus shipping (appears to be lots left). I hope this helps.

Keep track of the PB Swiss bit holder. It was recently on sale for very cheap and I picked one up just b/c.

The absolute best bit holder I've ever tried is the Wera Rapidator.

The DeWalt Tough Box kit I won on your website giveaway has a similar bit holder that has a swivel, I've already used it, very handy indeed and it locks in the straight position so it won't wobble when you don't want it to.

Glad you found it to be handy!

I received a non-impact accessory kit, and it only has a straight bit. I believe I have a pivoting holder around here somewhere though...

I know this is an old thread but maybe this will help someone. I just bought the PB Swiss 1/4" Magnetic Universal Bit Holder and was very impressed. I wrote about it on my blog. PB Swiss offers a lot of options for handles and bits. Their magnetic holders have VERY strong magnets in comparison to other companies. I recommended integrated handle and blade, as the blades tend to wobble in the handles.

My current favorite is trhe Craftsman 9-47483. I have 3 of them.

There is nothing special about the driver itself, but is does come with 32 bit in a rubber storage block and the handle will store 6-8 of your favorite bits.

It shows up on eBay for less than $20.

The tool you want is the PB Swiss PB 186 M.

This is the classic "hard handle" bit driver they have been making for years, and there are none better!

If you want a ratcheting model, then there are other options out there, but for a simple durable bit driver nothing will beat the PB Swiss.

In years gone by, I might have said that the Snap On had the edge in greasy environments, but they havn't offered a regular bit driver for some years now!

Don't get too hung up about warranty. Get the tool, inspect it, and if you see a fault return it. I doubt you will, I've bought hundreds of PB Swiss tools for myself and various firms I've been involved with, and havn't had a problem! Unless you try using it as a truck tyre lever, you won't either!

What if it 'develops' a fault? Mate, it won't! It's a bit driver made up of 3 components, there won't be a problem! What if you break it? Well, that's 'Tufska Shitski' as they say in Russia! No warranty covers people over stressing tools, although many seem to think it should!

Buy one and enjoy...!

Edit - just realised this is a five year old thread! Comments still stand though!

These hazet ones were like $10 and $20. Strong magnet, good handle shape and texture and bit storage in the handle. They work for me.

I can't believe the Sears Craftsman 43373 doesn't get any love here... :headscrat

Right now, available in the Craftsman 22 pc. Magnetic Driver and Bit Set for under $13. And with a $6 off coupon available... For that price, you can't even find a cheap Chinese equivalent on eBay. For that price, I had to pick one up. I know this isn't made in the USA anymore. But for the price, and for light use, this can't be beat.

Hate Craftsman handles.... I like my Snappy, not the price considering how little I use it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was going through this thread and pricing some options. I think the cheapest I found was the PB Swiss Classic Handle Driver for 1/4" Screwdriver Bits for $20 + shipping. But lets face it, it isn't used that often. I'm only getting this because I finally picked up some 1/4" safety torx bits to take off my Mass Airflow Sensor...

I saw a nice looking Craftsman Professional 47160 for $29.99 on eBay, but it's way too much for how much I would end up using it.

Either of these is the stone cold nuts. The screwdriver is the super nuts as once you put a bit into it you can only release it by pulling back the collar. You can't pull the bit out without pulling back the collar I don't care how hard you try. Sadly, I'm stock out of these but they're on the next boat from Taiwan.

The set is the nuts from the standpoint of a screwdriver that only holds onto the bit with a strong magnet. The screwdriver itself pivots from being a straight screwdriver to a bent handled screwdriver (Sort of like the classic Milwaukee 2.6V screwdrivers that Panasonic made for them.) This is also a ratchet screwdriver which is super nice. I've got 1 of these left.

All the 1/4 hex bit holders ( ratcheting or otherwise) suffer the same flaw. They just don't have deep enough reach. Lots of things ive encountered have recessed fasteners some over 3-4" deep. I find the wider holders and shafts just don't work half the time.
waaahhh.

Sounds a lot like the Wiha Ultra Driver...

I bought one over the holidays as a gift for a friend. I got the chance to play around with it, the bits are not coming out no matter what. Until you pull the locking shaft collar back. Nice driver... They have several different configurations depending on your bit preference.

The cure for this is simple--100mm long bits
