About a year ago, I faced the same choice. After reading a dozen tests, I bought the Makita 18v compact LiIon kit (LCT-300). Amazon had the lowest price click here.

Impressive power for such small tools, and I use them daily in remodeling work & general repair work.

For the shop, I just bought the larger hammer-drill 18v LXT click here. Makita currently has a promo with qualifying kits like this, and sends an extra battery at no charge. Much heavier than the compact, longer runtime, more power.

Both are best in class, according to every test I read.

Barry - Did you really get the BDF451? The BDF451 is 3 spd with no hammer functionality. The BHP451 looks almost indentical but has hammer and 2 spds.

I ask because I'm thinking about getting the BDF451 and want to here how it performs.

I bought this set on sale for $ 200 last christmas, and have ditched my dewalt forever!

In my opinion, its the best 18v cordless line on the market. The little impact has plenty of power too.

If I chance on this kit at amazon for around $200 I might just grab one too.

I buy nothin but makita. The batteries seem to fair out better than friends with dewalt/Milwaukee. No one buys Bosch that I know of. I just upgraded my impact to the new brushless and brushless drill with 5amh batteries and what a difference in power the brushless have.

I've been using Bosch 18v tools for a couple years now. The CORE batteries they make are amazing when compared to other tool brands. I bought a new 1/2" hammer drill and 1/4" impact combo this past spring. The drill has great torque, and they came with 4.0ah batteries.

I also have a 1/2" impact that I use on car work. It might not have the most powerful break-free torque, but it does 98% of what need it to do on cars, along with sinking big lag bolts.

In my opinion, the FlexVolt DeWalt batteries are overrated for anything other than chop saws, table saws and other non hand tools. And they're flippin' expensive.

This thread is 7 years old guys..

If he had revived the thread stating he buys Milwaukee, you wouldn't mind. :lol_hitti

Just joking, Kctyphoon. lol

I think most of the brands are OK for home use. Probably best to stick to Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Metabo, Hilti, Fein, Festool for the pro's.

There are so many sales and bargains on the better brands, that even DIY guys can afford the stuff by Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee. Might not be the top of the line Fuel brushless, but even the plainer line is fine.
