What is your opinion as to the very best 2 part epoxy glue to be used on a variety of materials like metal, plastic, wood, etc.? I've used JB Weld and it does OK but is there anything else on the market (something available to the general public at a big box store) that is better?
Thanks in advance.

There are a number oof different types of epxies that are meant for different uses. The West System epoxy isn't a single use epoxy, it's a system with different hardeners additives and fillers, so that the epoxy can customized for the task at hand. If you just want a single use type epoxy dispenser for small tasks, the "concrete metal" epoxy available at Home Depot in the syringe dispenser has worked well for me for wood and metal use. It you need the epoxy thinned a bit denatured alcohol can be used. The epoxy is only available in small dispensers though.

3M Has a full professional line of 2 part adhesives. I use their panel bonding adhesive all the time and love it.

Not sure if it is "The best" but I like Devcon 2 ton, NON fast drying epoxy. It is strong and hard, but not brittle. Got recommend it by a few gunsmiths I know. Supposedly is the same as acraglass. :dunno: I've pieced together some sorry rifle stocks with it and they are reported to be holding up fine. I'm talking high power rifle stocks. Either they held up fine, or their owners never lived to let me know of the failure. Lets hope for the former. Never had a problem with mine.

In all seriousness, for a general use epoxy, it is pretty hard to beat in my experience as far as availability/uses/$/strength.

I get a lot of use from 3M Scotchweld 2216 A/B.

It's most useful for plastic-to-metal. When RTV will let go eventually, it won't.
I've also fixed refrigerator shelves (not pretty being grey on white shelves, but they have held up.) And kids toys. But mostly transmission stuff.

Definitely only available through industrial supply houses. I've gotten a couple years out of a set of tubes. The Loctite equivalent has either one-time-use activator (totally kills the cost effectiveness) or higher-use setups for caulking guns. So I stick with the 3M.

Oh and JB Weld is an absolute joke in comparison.

3M Has some good epoxies. Loctite makes one as well that come in 2 decent sized bottles. Ive used it quite a bit with no failures.

Loctite 5 minute epoxy has worked for my rear view mirror. I never had much luck attaching anything to glass before. I cleaned it very well before hand.

A tip I have is don't cut the tip of pry the plunger out and remove what you need using a Popsicle stick.

I too have used many 2 part epoxies.

MMM 8101 structural adhesive is some really strong stuff and adheres to most everything.

Two part general purpose gray structural adhesive that may be used for bonding metal, glass and plastic. This product can be used for trim, fiberglass, and flexible body parts repair.

You can get it at most auto body supply houses and online.
