Best 30 bucks I've spent (knee pads)

Morning-

For those of you who turn wrenches for a living (or do any job which requires getting on your knees often) I hope this review helps you.

For the last month or so I've been using some knee pads under my jeans. (see here). They are very thin but still provide plenty of cushion. When you can't find your kneel pad and have to get on the ground these will save you. I put em on in the morning, take em off when I get home again. Actually lately I've just been using one, since most of the time I get down on one knee not both. I have yet to use them in the heat, but they seem pretty breathable too.

Only drawback is your jeans will get dirtier since you will use the kneel pad less. I'm a skinny guy and I fit a large, so I guess they run a little small too.

Do any of you use knee pads? I'm new in this field but I've never seen anyone use them.

Good thing they go under the jeans. I couldn't imagine the hassle I would get if they went over. I do have one pair of pants that have knee pad pockets built on the inside of them. It works great. They are called tactical pants for EMS and Swat. The TSA had a field day with them once. They just loved to feel it and check it out.

Now back to the hassle part. I have been using kneel pads for years. You wouldn't believe how big of a deal it can be to other people. Most of the guys I train in the field won't even use it if I offer them my second kneel pad I carry. It is not like your wife's garden pad either. It is red and says Craftsman on it. There is some stigma attached to it. Pride or something I have no idea. But I get funny looks and jokes when I use it sometimes.

I don't understand people who think it's funny to use things that make work easier or more comfortable. I drag one of those HF mats around with me all over the place. It's one of the most-used tools I have. I see now they've "upgraded" it with a head rest and doubled the price. Progress, I guess.

In my last year of college, I was working with the maintenance team. Lots of kneeling.

Went to the sports store and bought volleyball kneepads and wore them under the pants.

I got 2 pairs of kneepads that fit on the outside of the pants that I have been using for the longest while.

I am only 27, but have seen the long term effects on older guys.

I might have to try the ones that you posted

You wear them around here, and your coworkers think you are working on a pay raise! LOL!!
I cannot believe I waited as long as I did to finally get a set. I have ruined my knees over the years not using pads, and now regret it. Now old age and the extra weight has caught up to me, and it really *****!

I've been wearing kneepads for decades. But look at my name. I use the old ones for work. I also have the craftsman that use switchable pads for different terrain.
For those that worry about funny looks, remember when people laughed at people with hard hats, back braces, earplugs, safety glasses and so on.
I just say that the woman was particularly amorous last night and it took its toll on my knees.

No one wants to jump on the bandwagon until everyone else it doing it. Think about seat belts, or bike helmets. No one used either of those 10 years ago. Pants with built in pads sounds like the golden ticket, much more comfortable if you are wearing them full time.

I use the harbor freight capped **** on my right knee. That's the cool guy way of doing it. 2 kneepads are for squares!

Oh...to address the thread it's slightly better to have outside the pants kneepads if you're paying for your own stuff. That's not why I wear them (I take a knee) but it helps if you're sliding around a bit on your knee/knees to prevent holes. Not that these are a bad idea just that if you're a "jeans" or loose pants guy you'll get holes after time.

I have a pair of SKillers work pants that have pads that fit into pockets sewn into the knees. They work great, no elastic around leg to cut off circulation. You can remove them if you don't need them.
SKillers may not be in business anymore but Blaklader has a similar set up.

I wear my Blakladers daily (with the knee pads) and absolutely love them. I wish I would have known about them 15 years sooner. Yeah, they look a little funky, but less so in all black. I've converted several of my friends and co-workers to them. The Bantam versions breathe well and are cooler than denim or very similar. Just gave a pair to my dad last weekend and he's been digging them.

I sometimes use elbow pads too. Running baseboard sometimes require me to lay on my side.
Every lil piece of **** I squeeze under my elbow hurts like a mother funky, thus the pads.

I also clamp down stuff with my elbow, the vibration gets ya.

I only ever knew one shingler that didn't wear knee pads constantly. He's in his mid fifties now and can barely walk.

For me it was a staying-on-the-roof-thing. Can't count the number of times I slipped on ice and water shield in the rain and planting a rubber knee pad was the only grip I had to stop me.
