I just picked up MagLite's new 2 AA LED flashlight at HD for $22 last night. It is 230 lumens, made in USA, and lifetime warranty.

I can't believe how bright this little light is. I'm really impressed.

I picked up at $20 Defiant brand LED from Home Depot last year. It is very long and uses D cell batteries. This is the brightest and best light I've ever used. I think it was 600 lumens or so. Defiant makes really really good lights competitive or better than Maglites I've owned. I'd check out what HD offers. They all go on sale at some time or other.

For a small handy automotive type light that sticks to metal or hangs from a little hanger hook, I just love those little Harbor Freight 29 led plastic ones. For about $3 or less with coupon, these make great gifts. Very bright. I have several of these. Also great for any closet or in the toolbox drawer! One of HF's best values. These sell elsewhere too. For BF, I saw at Sears the same HF light but it was about $6 there. - Paul

Does he keep any cordless tools on the truck?
You could get him a worklight compatible with his make of batteries.

I am not a big fan of Nebo either. When comparing them to other "quality" lights, they are cheaply made in my book.

I wouldnt recommend NEBO either, i bought 5 or 6 of the Redline SE lights as gifts from a friends mom that was a distributor and they all turned yellow and became very dull after a little while

I have some surefire G2 nitrolon LED's and a streamlight polytac, which is very similar.

Both are good, Streamlight is better and about half the price. They both use the pricey 123 batteries, but since they are LED, they last quite awhile.

The Pelican 2360 is very hard to beat. It uses AA's and has a metal case and is just as bright as the above two. I personally prefer the plastic bodied ones but I prefer replacing the AA's over the 123's.

There are much higher priced flashlights than those, but they seem to work well for me and all of them are better than any flashlight made 10 years ago.

Costco has a nice set we picked up tonight for $25 that is 2 lights that use 3 C cell batteries. I was really surprised how bright they were for $25. They are duracell branded lights

I bought two last week for $ 20 on sale - a phenomenal deal - 500 lumen output using 2 regular Duracell C cells. These are stunning lights.
