I'm in the market for a complete bolt/nut extractor set. I have a small 5 piece set of Irwin bolt grips that have worked amazingly when I have a stripped bolt in one of those sizes.Now I'm tryin to find a complete set from about 8-19 that doesn't skip any sizes. Would like a good SAE set aswell. Have searched and just can't find a complete set. I've found that Pittsburgh and Irwin seem to have the biggest sets but they both skip sizes mainly 15 and 18 which I see a lot of in my line of work. So my question is,is there any better brands or more complete sets out there? Thanks

Irwin/Hansen most likely makes them for all the big name brands. Craftsman also makes pretty decent sets that I believe are still USA made. I wouldn't touch Pittsburgh because I've had bad luck with a lot of their stuff when I really needed it to perform. Not wasting my time anymore. I have the small Irwin set that works awesome. You can also look for twist sockets. SK makes some I think.

I have the Snap-On master set. It includes everything up to pipe sizes and has the proper drills and drill bushings. Made by Ridgid, it would probably be cheaper from them.

I really like the craftsman set,they look like their pass through so will work well on nuts that are stripped where a shallow extractor won't work.

I love extractors and use them a lot on stuff I refurb.
But there is a bunch of different types.
Bolt = Screw (Irwin, Cleveland, etc and they have different pitches) vs wedge (rennsteig) vs spline (Ridgid)
Nut = spiral screw (Blue-Point) vs spline

Turbosocket in SK flavor gets yout a warranty at a decent price. I use the **** out of mine and have warranties two with no problems from SK.
That's the set I have and they work great. Wish I could find that design of extractor but complete set. Found a deep set on eBay but as I mentioned before 15 and 18mm are missing. That's pretty big deal because more then likely those are the ones I'll need as I come across those two a lot of the time.

Those turbo sockets are nice!! No 18 but they come in deep and shallow.Might just have to find a 18 by itself somewhere.

That description is wrong. They cannot be used with just the 3/8" drive. They are "pass thru" design to fit long fasteners. The description from AJ Man. does not say they fit 3/8" drive either. Some yahoo copy and pasted the description from the regular stud removers.
Also, here's an interesting line from AJ Manufacturing - We currently provide our products to a number of customers including Snap-on Tools, Matco Tools, MAC Tools, Sears, and Wal-Mart as well as a number of WD’s throughout the United States.

I wouldn't even consider HF for something like this. I'd get American made Irwin or Craftsman, but that's just me. I've used my Irwins many times and they work, but more importantly they work the next time, and the time after that, etc, etc. Will the "cheaper" HF extractors hold their shape after first hard use?? Don't care to find out.
Turbosocket looks like the best, branded on a Truck for wealthy, SK for the common folk, but I would still consider HF at $20 minus coupon for a set instead of a socket.
The trick with all the types and brands is to stop if they aren't working and try something else.

Some good info in this thread.
Drill and twist from the middle is fundamentally inferior to twisting from the outside of the screw head. Torque is distance from the center x force at the point its applied.
Different tools for different situations. If an external remover bites and not slips, its the best shot at removing short of destroying the bolt via progressive drilling or one of those zapper things.

The thing that steered me away from the craftsman is that if you break one you have to return the whole set as sears does not carry singles. Irwin' s can be had in singles from their web site. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Worse, unless I have it wrong, the Craftsman set isn't lifetime, its one year.
SK easy warranty for me, same for Pittsburgh
I am still hunting for completing one of my Craftsman sets, but more and more I may just buy Irwin/Hanson and be done with it..

This one set me back about $30 bucks as I recall. Worth every cent. Fought with that goddam blade bolt for an entire day before I drove over and bought the kit.
