I'm finally ready to put a coating down in my 2 car garage (400sq.ft.) and ive been lurking around the forum lately to help make up my mind but I'm so torn between so many brands such armorpoxy, epoxy coat, SW armorseal1000hs, epoxy master, rocksolid and the original color chips. I love having variety but I just want to make sure I make the right choice. a little background on what I'm hoping for is a coating that will stand up to the every day auto shop, be budget friendly but also stand up to sunlight as my garage faces west. I plan on being in this house for the next 10 years and I really don't want to have to redo it when I go to sell it. thanks in advance for the help!!! and fwiw, the garage floor is less than a year old

Hi,
Some of the products you mentioned are very similar, others not as much depending on which product you want. All noted are good quality.

If you want a good, proven system, then go with a 3 layer epoxy system with primer, 100% solids and 2 part urethane topcoat. That would be for us our Armorclad system www.armorcladepoxy.com. Cost/sq ft with GJ discount runs in the $1.00 range all-in.

For something economical that is super heavy duty and wont yellow and is very, very resistant to chemcials and such, that would be our SPGX Coating that can be applied as a single coat and runs in the 30-35 cent range/sq. ft.

Armorpoxy / Armorseal good systems. Very similar to what we sell. Epoxy coat has a good product, a little limited in depth and you may have to go elsewhere for primer etc. Other people too on the forum like Legacy etc all have good products.

So your garage is less than a year old... Was a cure n seal or any other sealer used when it was poured? People tend to just say no and often that is not the case... Just saying. Is the concrete in relatively good condition? Also what state are you in because that affects top coat which is key for what your looking to do.

If it was my garage and everything was in good shape and no sealer was used I would do a 4 coat Rust Bullet system . If you want flake you could do two and two (two gray and two clear). This will eliminate most of the prep and most of the install issues.

If you want an epoxy system -- and if your in a state that will allow you to use a good top coat, we have several systems that would work well for you. I would want to talk to you and find out more and make a real suggestion as opposed to a sales pitch.

Thanks for the quick replies. The floor DOESN'T have any sealer on it at all. It has a csp of 1-2 and has seen some road Salt and snow melt from this winter. I've tried to keep it as clean as possible so when I go to coat the floor, i get the best possible adhesion. I'm also in Kentucky so we get cold winters and hot humid summers. I'm wanting to possibly coat it this coming weekend before the humidity starts to get out of hand. I've read some about the rust bullet but didn't know if they made a gloss setup or not? I'm a big fan of clossy floors. Also I've got 2 other people wanting to do their floors as well and I'm being the guinea pig for them haha. One garage is a basic 2 car and the other is a 3200 sq ft. Auto shop so they will most likely use what I use. What's rust bullets durability like?
Legacy, I've also looked at the nohr-s but couldn't find much as far as reviews. What's the dry mil thickness? I'll try looking for the data sheet.
If anyone would like to talk more in depth with me, please feel free to email me at [email protected]

boostedcruze - it's great that you're looking to update the floor of your 2 car garage with a nice floor coating. I was thinking the same thing for my garage floor. I rented floor grinders to profile the concrete but first used a 7" Diamabrush (purchased from Scotty at Legacy Industrial) to remove the curing sealer that the concrete guy put on after the floor was poured. Let me tell you that I spent many, many hours removing it. In fact many more hours than I had expected based on all the posts I had read in this fine forum.

Why am I saying this? After all the work that I put into removing the curing sealer/profiling the concrete, I realized that I could not afford to have a coating failure. Because I would not want to have to do it again.

Moral of the story: buy the best coating you can possibly afford from a vendor that is going to support before, during and after the sale. Ask tons of questions and get all the answers possible "before" you start applying the coating.

I hope you have great success and look forward to seeing a ton of photos.

Go to Lowes and hope that they still have the Rocksolid Polycuramine metallic product on sale for $75 per 100sq ft. It's exactly the same as the rustoleum from Home Depot for $119 per 100sq ft, except its on the old style packaging, so Lowes have it on clearence. I think that this is the best option for a DIY'er.

Obviously its all in the prep, but in terms of actual coating all in for $300. I personally do not think it can be beat.

Rust bullet is a metallic gray and you can use falke and clear. WE also offer a full line of epoxy products. You are welcome to give me a call and we can go through the project and decide what makes sense

Sorry I've taken so long to get back. I decided on armorclad from armorpoxy. Went with the primer and the basic topcoat. I've been working on it all weekend and today was topcoat day.....but it's raining and that put a damper on getting it applied. So far I'm extremely happy with the product but I'm a little erked that I have 1.5 gallons of base coat left over and have nothinges else to put it on! Using the primer really did stretch it out. I know I didn't put it on too thin either lol. So for anyone who decides to use it with primer, I'd be safe to say it will stretch to 800 sq ft, as my garage is 400 on the dot. Maybe I'll use it on my shed floor since it probably can't be sent back. But my next question is, I wonder if there's a certain repost window to get the top coat down or can I wait until next weekend? And since the base stretched so far, I wonder if I'll be able to make the gallon of topcoat stretch to 2 coats. If anyone can answer this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Oh, and I'll get pics up when I figure out how to do it since I can't do it from my phone
