Best bit holder for on an impact

I have a m18 fuel 3/8 impact I want to use as an impact driver. I don't know how much longer my c3 driver is going to last and I like the fuel one better. I use alot of the short bits like the ones that come in a box of screws. Another reason why a standard impact driver bugs me. So what is the best bit holder for the little ones. I know Milwaukee makes a shockwave one but I don't think it will work for those short bits.

Milwaukee, Dewalt, and I believe Irwin make these.

I had the Milwaukee.. it's well made, but none of them are gonna be "just like" an impact driver cause the 3/8 adapter will introduce some wobble to your drive bits..

Just to be clear this is the type of bit I am talking about. They have no retaining notch. (First picture)

The short Milwaukee bits (at least any that I have seen) have a retaining notch. (Second picture)

Will the shockwave holder hold the first style. I don't see how it would. The only way I can think of to hold them is with a magnet or some sort of ring type retention like an impact wrench.4ecf263b700e88926d17c48502da7339.jpg8cd46061120fdfb27d8ac0453bcfab94.jpg

Shockwave is magnetic. The Milwaukee bit you're looking at, that isn't for retention. It's part of the bit design, seems to be to minimize bit breakage.

I have a Milwaukee bit holder that's impact rated and it holds both types of bits because it's magnetic. I think mine is around 6 inches long I'm not sure of new price as I bought mine with bits from a pawn shop out of the dollar bin so it all was $1. I've used it alot and it's great the length is also nice aside from Thu magnetic feature. One thing I can say the bits with the quick change feature stick out kinda but they do work fine.

Ahh your looking for something 3/8 mines 1/4 hex I'd go with Thu shockwave others have mentioned.

Yes I am looking for on an impact wrench. I am getting mixed signals if the Shockwave one will hold the smallest bits if they aren't Milwaukee.

So the shockwave 3/8 to 14 hex adapter is magnetic?

Didn't notice that you're looking at the 3/8 square drive to 1/4 hex drive adapter. I have Shockwave 1/4 hex drive holders for my drill and impact driver, but I don't have a 3/8 impact. The 1/4 hex are magnetic.

As said above the rounded part of the bit has nothing to do with the bit being held into an adapter or extension. The little cuts in the corners of the standard bits is what is held onto in an adapter, Milwaukee just changed the contour of the bit at that same spot

If the bit has either the line or a notch the tool collet should hold it secure but the usefulness of a stubby inch bit once inserted may be limited

That Milwaukee bit shown wont hold in a locking ring collet as there is no notch its just for a standard magnetic bit holder and the cutaway is the relief in the shockwave design to allow for twist instead of a sudden breakage

Since you want to use small bits I would just get 3/8 to 1/4 bit holder though some like the Stanley/Proto or Irwin are non impact rated they still work ok. I have one I use to adapt bits to an impact wrench. I also use the 3/8 drive socket mounted bits too, a lot depends on what ur doing though.

here is one impact rated they are pretty compact and have little wobble unlike the bigger adapters

No the Milwaukee is held in the same adapters as the standard bits, the notches on the standard ones are in the exact same spot as the relief cut on the Milwaukee which lets the adapters hold them.

I see what you are saying but I don't believe it is meant to used that way and it was intended for magnetic bit holder but if works
