its not the media type but more of pressure and how long you work a single spot that causes heat then it warps.
holding the gun father away spreads out the media some so it does not heat a real small area to quickly. also works with alloy/crome parts. blast in stages allowing them to cool down
You can use either media but as previously mentioned hold gun farther away. And make sure you get all the galvanizing off if you are gonna powdercoat it cause the fumes from galvanized metals are toxic.
Powdered galvanize is also toxic, so I DON'T recommend this at all. How much area are we talking about? muratic acid will strip galvanize, but if it is large this may not be practical.
