I was going to buy an air blowgun for my new compressor. Do people like the pistol grip style or the other one? Any worthwhile brands to look at? The pistol grip Campbell Hausfeld has good reviews on amazon for $5

I like my pistol grip blow gun... As far as brand, I've always just bought the cheapest one.

Gaurd Air Long John Xtra Thrust. They work really well and have a nice venturi tip. Available in lengths up to like 72". They eat a lot of air though, and don't fare so well getting run through a running combine cylinder.

Here's one for $23

Matco branded CEJN think v1051 and snap on at4101 are the two I use that have good flow. Depends what you are doing it with I guess as well. I wouldn't want to use a cyclone to test a trans clutch pack lol. Both are imports that I mentioned but full flow and last for many years to come, the Matco comes with a rubber tip. You can buy it as a CEJN as well but not that common to find in the he states.

I bought a cheapie from hf earlier this year and the valve is shot already. lube o-rings with silicone worked for a few more weeks of light use. Took it a part and tried rebuilding it but it still leaked. How long do blow guns usually last? there things that make a $20 one better than a $5 one?

I prefer the inline style blow guns, I have a Milton and another us made (brand escapes me) with the hooks on them. One has a rubber tip one has a brass tip. I need to invest in something with a greater reach is my only problem.

I made a nozzle out of 3/16 copper tubing that is a foot long epoxied into a rubber tip with the nozzle enlarged, it actually works really well the rubber lets it give, the only problem is it is now only about 5" long due to being run over by a towmotor.

I prefer the inline mostly cause I have several and there cheap, honestly dont know Ive ever bought one beside a H/F pistol. The one i use mostly has been adapted with an 1/8" x2" long nozzle, really nice for threads etc. I use the rubber tip on another where I dont want to scratch, another open for volume.

But think I might try a pistol again-seems might be easier when doing some extensive blowing- i threw away the H/F one-something was wrong with it -took a lot of force to get the plunger to move-blew a hole threw a filter-should have taken it back but it felt better tossing.

I have an Astro that will accept a rubber tip that I bought off the snapon truck years ago that i reach for first. That said, I like the trigger control on a blue-point one better. Been meaning to buy a replacement for my lost one.

I also have a couple guard air ones, a long John and a short one. I use them occasionally when I need the reach.

On the mill and lathe I have a regulated safety blower that won't shower all the surrounding area with chips and won't drive junk into the crevaces on the machines.

This. IMO. Wal-Mart carries it too, but probably more than $5. Or look for a yellow Vaper at O'Reilly. Autozone used to have the Vaper, too, but last I looked they no longer carried them.

I had a Bluepoint (Vacula) and it just leaked. All the time. I've had both the CH and Vaper for several years now and like them both. Used probably 4 days/week in my shop.

If you can find one, a Binks Model 190 is a great pistol-grip air gun. I used one daily in a previous job; it's very comfortable, even with continuous use. I'm currently using a Milton S120 in my home shop.

We had pistol grip Guard Airs back when I worked in a textile mill. All had their own dedicated plumbing and got used all day, everyday (you'd be amazed at the dust). Those were the best I've ever used.

I've still got a Guard Air, but I'd really like another one for basic trouble shooting of air systems on heavy duty trucks -- unhooking the discharge from the compressor and shoving applying shop air to the system. Rubber tipped and maneuverable, built like a Guard Air. Any diesel mechanics have any suggestions?

I just got a Snap-On one off the truck that is obviously made by Airboy. I must say I am very impressed with the quality. Comparing it to my buddies Vacula the Airboy seems to be better quality IMHO.

Older thread but glad I found it. Read it last week and picked up two Guard Airs.

Picked up this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007G2QBUS/?tag=atomicindus08-20

So much more comfortable than the bluepoint thumb one I have. This one fits in one's hand nicely.

Wanted a pistol grip one and found this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000R8F2LW/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I was able to pick that one up as an add on item for $5 so I figured why not. All the attachments for the first one fit the second one so it's awesome, they even fit my bluepoint blow gun. Quality is really nice and they are solid. Should have gone with these a while back honestly.
