Porter Cable 7424 is the one I have owned for many years. It has saved the paint on our cars several times.

Using a claybar before going through a full range of cutting compounds and polishes is pointless - the claybar isn't going to remove anything the cutting compound won't, by design.

A DA with some decent swirl remover and a good polish would be sufficient to make the truck look decent. Any more than that is going to require significantly more work.

You are right, a heavy cutting compound will remove most of what a clay bar would remove. Only it will take longer and trash your pads. Clay or the new clay towels are a huge timesaver.

Back to the OPs question, go with Griots as it has the best warranty. If money is tight, the HF machine looks pretty good.

Thanks a lot guys. I've gained some good info from this thread, lots of information and good replies.

Again, I'm not going for a show quality job here, I just want to make it look better than what it currently is.

I've got a lot of things to think about buying and with Christmas around the corner maybe Santa will bring me something.

I keep my truck dirty because it looks THAT much better when I actually clean it ;).

Surprised nobody likes the Dewalt variable rpm buffer...I've had one a long time and it's served me well. From tool boxes to cars.
