Best carpet spot cleaner

Just bought a Bissell Pet Pro for ~$180 and was incredibly disappointed - the check valve from the clean water tank was defective out of the box and leaked water during the first use

I would like a spot cleaner for cleaning pet messes or other spills on the rug, but also have the portability to take out to the cars and clean the carpets/seats/floor mats.

I would spend $500 or so for a really good/commercial one that I should get many years from.

What do you recommend?

dawn dish soap/club soda, rub with brush is supposed to remove spots

Shaw R2X Stain Remover. It seems the new formulation doesn't work like the old stuff -
perhaps you could find some NOS at a local carpet store. It's slightly greenish-cloudy compared to the clear new stuff.

I have had this CleanFreak spot cleaner for several years. It works great for spot cleaning in my house and is also great for cars. I use a product called Bio Break as a prespray and simply extract with hot water.

Had a Bissel green machine for years, which worked okay... could have used more suction. Need care when doing whole carpets or seats, only in warm temps and lots of ventilation required to dry.

a similar design sold under many names (Don Jon, Sandia, Aqua Pro, Clean Freak, Gecko, Mytee). However I think I'm going with a steamer instead for carpet and upholstery cleaning (less water, less drying).
