best cast blast type finish paint

Restoring some cast iron and machined steel parts
Whats everyone using to duplicate the fresh blasted look?
I realize that machined steel and blast cast iron are too different finishes
so Im willing to compromise with using the cast iron look.
Ive used several types before but threw emptys out and dont remember the brand.


also need some for aluminum too so two different types

I've had good luck with Duplicolor in both Cast Iron & aluminum versions.

Use light coats so the finish is rougher as it tends to smooth out when you use heavy coats.

Mike Ross, owner of BEA for Mopars, posted his method for powder coating that produces fantastic results. It is a bit of a read and I recall his process evolving a bit. Not sure if you have to join the forum to view pictures.

actually should have mentioned spray bombs.

One method I wont use on this application because I want to protect from elements
such as wheel spindles and hubs, is to wire wheel to bare cast,then soak with WD-40,wipe of excess after a few days. I did this to a master cylinder on one of my 68 Firebirds and it still looks like new 40 yrs later. I think Ive wiped with a paper towel and WD-40 twice in that time.

I like the VHT Nu Cast Iron and Nu Cast Aluminum. Seems to hold up pretty well on motor parts at least.

I had a partial can of the Rustoleum stainless steel paint so I tried that.
Its not cast iron looking,but is much closer to the cast steel,or finished steel
that most of the hubs were made of.
So keep this in mind for an optional finish.
