Best casters for everything? :)

So I'm getting the garage built, finally. Everything is in storage and I intend on 1 - weeding through some junk and not brining everything back and 2 - standardizing on some kind of caster that I can use for every table, every cart and every shelf so that I can roll EVERYTHING out if I need to. Something big and industrial that will not flatspot much if it sits a while.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I dont know off the top of my head, but the casters we have at work are obviously made by the same manufacturer, come in all sorts of sizes. They are high quality, get pulled by a tugger or forklift all day and withstand a ton of weight and still keep 9n rolling butter smooth. I have never saw one fail, I will look into it for you on monday evening. If you put these things on shopping carts, it'd make bubbles from the trailer park boys explode in his pants

Look for polyurethane treads. They are quiet, durable, and will not deteriorate over time. HF sells them but I don't know about the quality.

I can tell you the 3” HF polyurethane casters are junk if you want to load 200 lbs on a set of 4 (well under their stated capacity).

How heavy are the items you’ll be rolling around? Quality casters are expensive, so you might want to get large quality casters for the heavier stuff and downsize the casters for the smaller stuff (not junk, but reasonable quality).

I used castercity for a stock of 3” poly total locking casters. They are made in taiwan and are a good quality at a mid level price ($60 for 4 plus shipping I think). They carry a bunch of stuff on their site to meet most home shop needs I think.

There are a couple of brands to look at if wanting a quality casters. Like anything, price and quality go hand in hand.

RWM and Albion are excellent, made in USA choices.

Features to consider are:
Wheel material
Brake type
Full locking- this stops both wheel rotation and pivot on plate, really nice.

Here is a link to some nice casters ive used in the past.

and if these are to pricey, I bought some of these for DIY moving carts and so far have impressed. But definitely lighter duty.

ER Wagner or RWM 47...about 40-50 each...worth every penny for heavy stuff.

Caster City is where I go, for everthing from furniture casters to industrial. I have a set of their two way locking casters for my steel welding table/workbench. They recommend Polyolefin wheels as most resistant to flat spots when not moved for a while

Hamilton makes some really good top shelf casters and wheels, but they are priced a little higher than most. The casters and wheels I have from Hamilton have held up real well and preform flawlessly.

Back with that update I promised you.

The casters we use are from casterconcepts.com

They are made in USA, some even say made in USA on them, if that matters to you.

These casters are no joke, a buy once cry once scenario should you need quality long lasting casters.

I dont have specific model numbers for you on what we use, but a quick glance in their website looks like they offer hundreds, if not maybe 1000+ caster options. They have casters for super duty heavy weight into the 10k's of lbs. to shock absorbing casters. A bit overwhelming actually, but under their products page they have a good variety of refinement options. Having never personally ordered them I can only assume they will cost a pretty penny.
