First let me say that yes I know you get what pay for. Yes I know you buy once and you cry once. My question is:
What’s is best cheapest finishing nail gun for money? I am looking at this HF nail gun which shoots 15ga nails. I have over 200 pieces of 1x6 T&G boards to put up, plus trim boards etc. If there’s a throw away gun out there that get me through this project I like hear about. And what you have that the price of gun was worth gamble?
Here’s what I’m looking at right now, which is subject change. Thanks for your thoughts

One project and never again? Used on craigslist/fbmp

With that said, I have a harbor freight framer that has run thousands of nails and has been great. Same with my Ridgid (2) and Hitachi (1) guns.

For 1 project, I bet pretty much anything will work fine

I really like Hitachi/metabo nailers and staplers; Lowes had some discounts on that brand recently. I'll second the used or refurb nailer suggestion.

I built my shop with a cheap harbor freight gun. I would buy another if i needed or a used decent one but you don’t know how it was treated??” At least a HF one can be returned if you’re wishing the 90 days.

Right now that gun is 79.00, which you can buy extended warranty. But dang, 79.00, if it will get me through 1700 sq ft of 1x6’s I be happy. That’s lot nails every 2’ spacing

Hire someone don’t have to deal with equipment. I enjoy DIY buy the best you can afford.

The HF nailer will probably do what you need without any trouble, the real issue is finding 15ga finish nails. In my area no one stocks them so it's all mail order. I have a Ryobi 16ga finish nailer and it has done what you are wanting to do and more with ease and the nails are readily stocked at the local box stores. The only issue I have with it and budget nail guns in general is they sometimes don't sink the nail all the way so you have to go back and set all the shiners.

I have a harbor freight 15ga nailer from their Central Pneumatic brand and it’s been just fine for 8+ years of light use. I’ve probably put 3000 nails through it in that time.

My only word of caution is do NOT buy finish nails at HF. The adhesive they use on the strips stains horribly, and I’ve had it bleed through primed and painted trim. It’s a real pain to think you’re finished with a project then have little yellow stains pop up over every nail a few months down the line.

One more thing - if you can get away with 16 gauge you will find a lot of cordless options. I’ve been really happy with my Ryobi airstrike nailer, and it was reasonably priced. Yes - you need batteries and the gun is a bit heavier, but you really can’t beat the convenience.

I’m still using the PC finish and Brad nailers that were part of the Porter Cable compressor kit from probably fifteen or more years ago, although I did add a Bosch 15 degree nailer. The PC is straight.

I have been working on a Sauna project and, because of the limited space, really wish I had something without a cord or compressor requirement.

Hate to spend the money for the limited use it will see, though.

I bought a whole bunch of them when the Hitachi stuff was cleared out for the Metabo HPT rebrand.
Game changers for anything wood related. Very popular with my friends who like to borrow them. (yes, I loan tools).

Pneumatic nail guns have been perfected, any and all make decent gun these days.

Buy the cheapest thing you can find for one project

There are better guns for not much more money, I really like my Bostitch Smart Points

Hitachi, Senco, and Grex are also slightly better

Youd be better off going cheap on the gun and upgrading the hose, connectors, and compressor

I have a HF roofing nailer and a HF framing nailer and both have been flawless. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

I have done three roofs and a siding job, nd some home remodeling with them. Thousands of nails. Other than an occasional jam up that takes 5 seconds to clear, no problems. I have friends with the name brand guns that jam up once in a while too.

I give them a drop of oil in the morning and other than that I haven't touched them.

I have a couple Craftsman finish nailers too. One failed to work and I tore it apart, and found a broken part. I looked on line for the part and found out it was made by Bostitch and the part came in a Bostitch bag with a Bostitch part number. I did a bit more research and found The Craftsman and Bostitch were identical.

"Best" and "cheapest" tend to be mutually exclusive.

If you really want a one project gun buy the HF and don't hesitate to use the warranty.

But the best medium and long term choice would be a battery powered name brand one.

The HF one will be fine (light oil the nail striker slide ), all 15ga nails are compatible, they are all at angle, the 16ga ones are all straight and pin head. I have the porta-cable one from years ago, used all brand 15ga nails no problem, portacable dewalt or Bosch including HF. Their (HF) old old old nail guns are NFG.

If you have a Menards near you.
You can also order this one for delivery if you don't have a Menards near you. Only about 25% of Menards stores still have this in stock, and I wouldn't necessarily count on the ones with just one in inventory to actually have one in stock.
