Man-O-man guys, I've seen some gorgeous vises on this site!

Tell me how you pick your colors, and what type of paint you use, that's durable!

I have about 4 vises, but nothing other than a cell phone to take pics...wife would laugh at me if I asked her to take a few pic's for me....hehehe.

I usually paint mine the Factory color or as close as I can get.I use Rust-Oleum High Performance Enamel.Make sure you bead blast the vise first to get it super clean and all the dirt and grease out of the metal.Have fun!! :)

Here are some pics of a Wilton I restored about a Month ago.

Whatever is in stock.
Just painted my Athol with Rustoleum "Stainless Steel" color. I had that, burgundy red, and "new Cat yellow" on the shelf.

mine was old but as far as I can tell, was never used so I just cleaned mine up a bit and left it as is. I wipe it with a little grease every now and again to keep the rust at bay. I will, however paint my next one as close to Snap On orange as I can find to match my toolboxes. the one after that will get extreme green. the one after that....... ;)

Cat yellow sounds like it would look pretty cool on a vise.

Now I kind of want to pick some of that up and paint my vise...

Red, Green, Blue, Black. Those are the colors of my vises. Think I'll go orange on one eventually
step 1, use torch to burn all **** off, 2, seaon with oil in oven, 3 bolt to bench and wail on it...........
There are those who spend much time and effort to paint vises and there are those who never, ever will.

jack vines, who never will.

I love the patina of an old vise. On the other hand, if a vise has been painted improperly by someone else, that's when it gets cleaned and re-painted.

Two of my Prentiss' are a perfect old brown patina which I really like. Oiled up and let's go. I have another Prentiss that is going to get redone, since someone took the liberty of spraying the ENTIRE vise red at some point...same with an old Athol I have.

Love the looks of those old vises!

Fully understand "not" painting them too, I just don't care for "Wilton" blue. That Hammered Green vise is a pure d bute!

Darn! I always try to get in before the Jack Vines thread lock....
I sort of agree with keeping them a stock color but then I go nuts like my Hammered Copper Wilton. My really old vises tend to get a Hammered Black. The Reed got a gloss black because it is a Reed and you don't mess with Reeds. They just stare at you daring you to make them look like a French Poodle.
