Looking for a couple large (8"ish) bench vises for work. Would need to be new current production. I don't need precision just brute strength and mass. Willing to pay a premium for a American iron if I can. These will be bolted to 3/4 plate bench's.

Milwaukee vises are still American made as far as I know the Wilton machinist vise is also American made.

Castings on the Wilton Bullet vises are hollow and not nearly as robust as you might think, if someone is going to swinging at them with a 2 pound hammer.

I have an 800N a 600S and and a C2 honestly I think the Milwaukee of similar size is likely stronger as long as they are being used as vise's not u-joint presses.

I have no complaints about my American made Wilton vises. I also use them as vises, not presses, anvils or sacrificial beating blocks.

I would seriously take a look at the Morgan/Milwaukee vises listed here as well.

I want to say there MIGHT be a couple items in the YOST lineup still American made, my old neighbor bought a new one a few months back, and it was still made in US. It's possible that might have been NOS though. Still one hell of a vise.

Menards has 8" Irwin China Records on sale for under $200. Otherwise you are looking at $2000 for a Wilton 800 or similar priced Morgans. Only two USA vise manufacturers left. Also when looking at Wiltons, very big difference between a 8" tradesman and an 8" classic bullet 800. About a 100 lbs heavier and opens 5" wider. Depending on what you are doing, a 6" 600 might be a good size and still opens 3" wider than an 8" tradesman. Just for reference, I find the 5" 500 the perfect all around size when it comes to Wiltons. It's big enough, but not the sow a 600 or 800 are.
