Best desk chair

I am tired of buying a new chair every year . I spend a lot of hours at my desk and go through many chairs .

Who makes a good chair that holds up , padding flat after two months , or small metal parts falling out from the bottom . The lift leaks down etc .

I am not that big only 210 lbs , . I have looked at chairs on Amazon , E-bay , and office supplys .

Who makes the best , , thanks ahead of time .

I have a Herman Miller Aeron chair I can't remember when I bought over 5 years ago. It has held up really well considering how much I abuse it. The only thing I had to replace on it was the lumbar support part of it broke had to send a few emails but they sent the part out and I replaced it without a problem. The only thing I don't like about the Aeron is it doesn't have a head rest. I have an aftermarket headrest on it now however the headrest adjustments don't lock very well so it is always moving around and needing to be readjusted. Yes they have aftermarket upgrades for a computer chair.

I have thought about getting the new Herman Miller Mirra II chair as I need a second computer chair but I want to try it out first. I have used the Mirra chair befire and they are nice.

The other chair I have thought about is the Human Scale Freedom chair. I have only gotten to sit in one for a few minutes though I would want to try it out for a bit longer before buying one.

I would look on Herman Miller website and find out if they have a showroom or dealer near you so you can try them out before you buy. What is comfortable for one person may not be for someone else.

If you don't mind used I would check craigslist Aeron chairs show up often around here anyways.

I have several at work, and they are very durable and comfortable when fitted properly.

You should always have them sized to your body type - IIRC there are "A, B and C sizings" available that translate roughly to small, medium and large. On the back of the upper frame, there are one to three 'braille' type bumps that are cast into it that indicate the sizing by touch. You can also go crazy adding various options such as adjustable lumbar and seat/arm adjustments till the cows come home......

Wish I could afford one for home, though.....

I just got one of these. Fine quality leather, comfortable as hell, lots of padding, swivels, up & down, chrome base with a coil spring and a fricken gear shift knob!

I have an Aeron chair at work and it's great. At home I have a Herman Miller Equa, which is an older design; it's simliarly shaped, but with cloth upholstery instead of the mesh fabric on the Aeron. Herman Miller had a few other chairs models that are worth looking at as well.

These chairs are pretty expensive new, but you can normally find good used ones at good office furniture stores.

I too vote HM Aeron. I have a B at home, had a C at work. You will want the C, I had to compromise with the home one plus I got a killer deal used.
You can park yourself in it all day and be comfortable and not get up with sweaty back and ****. The fabric conforms to your shape as well as can be expected

+1 for Aeron. There are lots of used Aerons out there (at least here in So Cal) so look for used office equipment dealers.

I agree with the Hermon Miller Aeron. It is expensive, but so nice. Comfortable, supporative, and you don't get all sweaty because lets air circulate.

I am so picky with chairs. I spend a decent amount of time in my office to do the books for the laundromats. Here is the chair I have. It's from staples. I can't find a name on it.

I'd also recommend looking in to the Steelcase Leap, which is comparable to the previously mentioned Aeron. Most of the high quality chairs will begin around $600 and up for new, but can often be found lightly used online. HM, Steelcase, and Human scale are usually in everyone's top 5 lists as they are designed for people who spend extensive time sitting at desks every day at work, think draftsman, artists, etc.

I just went through this chair business. I found some task chair made by a company no longer in business as they were bought out by Hon. There are some good Hon chairs but they didn't keep all the designs in the Allsteel line up.

If you see any of these Allsteel chairs used take a 2nd look. I got the Relate for a friend who has problems sitting for long periods. It's the only chair I have seen with a back rest hinge at the small of your back.

The wife and I have a home office. Weused to go throguh those cheesy Staples office chairs every year, hot, non adjustable, bad chairs.

We both have the Aeron's now. Best chairs we've ever owned or needed. I had one arm on my chair start to slip. Chair tech came out, replaced it along with the center piston. No charge, good as new. Both chairs are probably 12 years old or so.

If money is no object, and you want the best, I would look at Concept Seating. They make chairs for dispatch centers where the chairs are used 24/7. Plus, a lot of dispatchers are not "small"... I was able to find a used one about 12 years ago which was one of their earlier models, and I don't think I will ever wear it out. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

My wife has Aeron, she loves it.
Yep, it's comfortable but...
While she sits upright and works diligently at her computer,
I, on the other hand, like to kick my feet back, tilt my over-stuffed, high back chair all the way back, put my feet up on the computer desk and watch her work while I nod off.
I'll take the big man's version of office chairs sold at Office Depot.
Don't care if I replace it every two years.
That's about my attention span anyway.

I had one of those Aeron chairs for a long time - got it at a garage sale for like $20. I liked the coolness from the "web" material, and when it got dirty, a quick soapdown and hose (or shot from the steam celaner) and it'd be clean again - set outside, and it'd be dry in a half hour or so.

Problem is you gotta like them, or be used to them (we had them at work so I got to where I liked the things) - they are a lovehate relationship.

Current one is this early 1950 desk chair, all wood, curved back, and genuine imitation leather seat (another yard sale score). I also have the matching "task" chairs (same style without the naugahyde cushion on the ****) that need to be refinished. Now I just need to unbury them from yesterday's movearound of stuff.

I have used Herman Miller and Humanscale.
Get the Herman Miller. It is a more comfortable chair and while both will last the Miller is nicer and breaths better.
Work was throwing a broken Humanscale away so I fixed it and it is my garage chair.

I work from home and after going through a few chairs from Staples, I bought a Humanscale Freedom chair with headrest and have been very happy with it. Had it for 9 years now. Had the arm rests and gel seat replaced under warranty and that was just from normal wear and tear. I spend 10+ hours a day in that chair and it is extremely comfortable.
