Best EPOXY to use?? Please!!

OK - I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I can't find it...What (in your opinions!) is the best EPOXY to use?? Oil or Water-based?

Best is very subjective to how fat your wallet is and what you expect out of the epoxy system.

The floor coatings that will serve your needs best depends on what you plan on doing on the floors. And the condition of the concrete you’re going to cover. A high VOC solvent based epoxy is working out great for me. I used Sherwin William’s Armorseal 1000HS. One of my four-car garages is used to store eight cars using four lifts. Another four-car garage is set up as an auto repair facility. And a third 30’ X 50‘ garage is a complete working machine shop equipped with lathes, mills, grinders, electrical discharge machines, and welding equipment. The Armorseal has been holding up very well and looks great in all three environments.

If there is a water problem in the concrete where water works its’ way to the surface, I wouldn’t suggest a solvent based epoxy. The hydraulic action of water will displace the epoxy. Though a water based epoxy can “breath” and will not be affected by the water in the same way. However a water based epoxy is not as chemically resistant and will not take the abuse that a solvent based one can.

NEITHER! If you want the best, you need to consider products that are 100% solids.

When using a diluted product (either water or oil/solvent), the dilutent (water or oil/solvent) must evaporate from the coating during the drying process. This process leaves a microporous substrate as the water or solvent makes a trail through the coating as it is trying to escape. Porosity makes these coatings far more suseptable to abrasion, chemical attack, and dirt pickup.
