I would consider this a tool like a timing light, SUN Machine, OBD1 or OBD2 scan tool, etc.
I have a 2002 Ford Mustang GT 5-speed manual with a few minor performance mods. I'm wanting to add performance tune to it. The factory tune tends to put these cars on a leash believe it or not when it comes to real performance. I have heard of several tuners for it; SCT X4, BAMA X4 (same as SCT but with custom tunes), Diablosport i2....
I am leaning more towards the BAMA. All these are $400. I want a tuner that does not have to stay plugged into vehicle (Flash the stock PCM), I can turn off Traction Control (PCM turns down fuel when in a wheel spin) and I can change settings myself. Anyone have any experiences with a Flash Tuner for 1999-2004 Mustangs?

SCT with custom tunes and be done. Don't cheap out or there's a pretty good chance you'll blow something up. You're better off going to a mustang forum to ask specifics.

Oh, and the SCT doesn't have to stay plugged in and it functions as a basic scan tool if you need it.

I use Tunerpro, the BIN file FBFG2 supports most 99-04 Fords. best of all, it's free or $30 donation...lots of forums and reference material for it on the interwebs...

I've always been partial to SCT tuners.

I had an older SCT X3 with a 5Star tune on my 1999 V10 F250 and a SCT X4 with a GearHead SRL tune on my 2006 F250 6.0.

Also, the canned tune in the SCTX4 was pretty good. That often isn't the case with a lot of tuners.
