Best Floor Dry?

What's your favorite brand of floor-dry? I bought some at Menards and it doesn't seem like it does much at all. Anytime I have any sort of oil spill, I dump it on immediately, and still end up with a big oil spot on the floor - whether I step on it and work it in, or just leave it to soak.

Maybe floor-dry won't prevent stains, but rather just soaks up the liquid and keeps it from being a puddle? Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I remember hanging out in shops when I was a kid and it seemed like their floor-dry worked fairly well? Maybe the floors were already so stained from years and years that it didn't make any difference?

We had this stuff at work that was a combination of Diatomaceous Urf, various treated "Cellulose fiber" (read recycled and fluffed TP, er, newsprint) and something that gelled when it hit the spill and sucked it into the DE and CF... a vendor left 4 pallets of the stuff to try out, worked so well that a few of those found their way into the work truck...

Unfortunately that stuff cost 2 kidneys and an eyeball compared to good old floor dry...

Saw dust and newspaper work pretty good.

Oil dry particles are too big generally to pick up liquids, smaller particles work better. Often we leave oil dry down after MVAs. This lets everyone driving over it grind it into dust cleaning the mess up better.

It's cheap and there is nothing left if you work it in a bit with you boot and sweep up. You can reuse what you sweep up a number of times if it is not completely saturated.

Stupid question, but how do I know if its made of Diatomaceous Earth? Does it say on the bag?

Is it white? The stuff I have is tan (clay) colored, and it seems like the stuff that worked well was always white..

Get some Pig Mats or their equiv. and put them down before beginning.
