I've been looking at Fluke i400 or similar clamp for my 87V DMM. For the price the Fluke clamp meters seem to be a better deal (cost slimier and extra meter) what am I missing?

The main plan is using it at home 1ph checking current and possible to install electronic locks and alarm systems.

This is what I'm looking at:

I have a Fluke T5-1000 as my daily meter, i love it. small simple auto ranging 1000 volts 100 amps. i use it for plant maintenance and industrial electrical daily. would be perfect for home use too.

Personally, I prefer the old analog types....in some of the stuff I do the digitals are almost worthless....

I would look on ebay or CL for an old Amp Probe....

that 322 looks like the deal for $92. i have a similar ES meter for home use and a amp clamp for my DMM at work. the ES is a lot easier and quicker to use. i also have an old analog amp probe i don't use anymore, i found it today while cleaning the shop.

Fluke meters are very nice, but for general homeowner stuff, I found the basic Craftsman multimeter on sale for $10 one day. Not great, but for the price it can't be beat. I think they're normally $20 in the store.

I too use a Fluke T5 at work along with about 15 other electricians and have nothing but praise for it It is very rugged and at $110 it is afordable, so I would recommend it:thumbup:
